Six Foundation Governor Positions have become vacant at Holy Cross Catholic Sixth Form College, and the Diocese is seeking to appoint suitable people to these positions.

The Role and Responsibilities of Governors 

The main business of the Governing Body is to determine the educational character of the College and ensure its overall well-being and financial solvency.  In brief, the responsibilities of the Governing Body are: 

·        for the preservation and development of the educational character and mission of the College and for the oversight of its conduct and activities

·        to ensure there are effective means of monitoring whether College Management is fulfilling the mission

·        ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources, the solvency of the College and for safeguarding its assets

·        to approve the annual estimates of income and expenditure

·        to oversee the appointment, appraisal, suspension, dismissal and determination of the pay and conditions of service of the holders of senior posts and the Clerk to the Governing Body

·        To set a framework for the appointment, grading, suspension, dismissal and determination of the pay and conditions of service of all other staff

·        To determine the policy for the admission of students.

Members of the Governing Body require a variety of personal characteristics, skills, and experience, which include:

1.    Being committed to assuring that the College provides a high quality education within a community based on gospel values.

2.    Assisting the College’s aim to develop each person spiritually, morally and intellectually.

3.    Being able to attend meetings of the Governing Body.

From time to time, the Governing Body also seeks people with specific skills and experience to complement its work, and that of its Committees.
