Stoke College are seeking a Geography Teacher who will be responsible for delivering high quality teaching, through the provision of schemes of work and planning engaging lessons to enable all students to make the best possible progress.
The Teacher must be able to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and communicate this in an enthusiastic and imaginative way using a range of teaching styles.
In addition, they will be expected to contribute to the routine and extra-curricular life of the School.
Main Responsibilities:
• Plan well-structured schemes of work and lessons to assigned classes, following the School’s Curriculum Policy and teaching and learning guidance
• Teach stimulating, engaging and purposeful lessons that inspire, motivate and challenge students and create a positive learning environment
• Set and mark homework as per homework timetable and provide regular feedback to pupils on progress
• Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, providing accurate and productive use of assessment data in accordance with the Teaching and Learning policies and guidance
• Plan and prepare assessment papers for mocks and other internal examinations
• Write progress reports for parents and pupils as per the teaching and learning schedule
• Be accountable for the student performance and progress in assigned classes
• Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils, providing stretch and challenge exercises and extended learning opportunities across all ability groups
• Demonstrate excellent subject and curriculum knowledge and keep up to date with subject developments including exam board requirements and marking schemes
• Utilise a variety of resources and pedagogical styles to suit the different learning preferences of students
• Create and maintain a stimulating and welcoming classroom environment which encourages learning and promotes interest in your subject
• Pro actively use the Stoke Successes scheme to award and recognise outstanding student achievement
• Be a proactive member of your faculty, contributing ideas and feedback to improve the teaching and learning provision
• Liaise and provide regular feedback to LSA’s, SENDCo and the Learning Development Centre on student needs and make the necessary adaptations in classroom teaching to progress student learning
• To uphold high level behaviour standards of students in and outside the classroom in accordance with the Behaviour Policy and deal with any unacceptable behaviour incidents in line with the School’s policy and procedures
• Take class registers and report absences using ISAMS or as per School procedures
• Work closely with the DSL Safeguarding team and raise any safeguarding concerns by following the School’s Safeguarding policy and procedures (e.g. Timely use of MyConcern)
• Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and carers and participate in regular parent evenings and events to discuss pupil progress
• Take part in the school’s performance review procedures and CPD opportunities to improve own teaching
