Under the direction of the Head of Grounds, the post holder will be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of a wide variety of sports surfaces and surrounding areas, using machinery and equipment to ensure the facilities are maintained to the highest standards. As part of a wider estates team, the post holder will be involved in ensuring the site campus is a professional and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

Hours

This is a full-time role, 40 hours a week, excluding breaks, Monday to Friday from 7.00am to 4.00pm. You are required to work such hours as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties. The role will require occasional work at weekends.

Duties

  • Prepare quality sports surfaces including cricket, rugby, football, and lacrosse as relevant to the season.
  • Prepare quality non-turf sports surfaces including 2G pitches, netball, tennis and synthetic athletics as relevant to the season.
  • Assist in the renovation of sports facilities.
  • Identify weeds, pests and diseases, and apply treatment as appropriate.
  • Undertake basic machinery maintenance, set up and cleaning.
  • Assist in the maintenance of roads, paths and fencing throughout the estate, including removing leaves, debris and litter.
  • Assist in snow and ice clearance and spreading of salt/grit as required.
  • Assist other departments in school as required.

What We Look For:

We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and committed Grounds Person.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Level 2 in Horticulture & Sports Turf or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Level 3 in Horticulture.
  • Desirable: PA1 and PA6 pesticide application.

Experience

A thorough knowledge of quality groundsmanship, in particular cricket pitch preparation and renovations. This should be transferable across to rugby and football and lacrosse pitch maintenance to provide a broad understanding of the industry. Sound horticultural knowledge will be required to work on formal lawns.

  • Confidence and assertiveness combined with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Excellent timekeeping skills with a clear ability to prioritise work, solve problems and seek help when needed.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards.
