About the role
St Catherine's Catholic College, The Whitsundays is seeking an experienced Groundsperson. This role is a term-time, fixed-term position completing 12 hours per week across 4 days. To commence as soon as practicable for the remainder of the 2023 teaching year.
The Groundsperson contributes to the effective and efficient operation of the College by providing a high level of gardening care, maintenance and development of the facilities and transportation services for students. The Groundsperson will work within a team to provide resource management, a safe and pleasant environment for students and employees and create a physical environment that is conducive to learning and safe student movement.
To join this vibrant school community, you'll need
- Previous experience in a similar position - maintenance and grounds services
- To be competent in the use and/or maintenance of equipment typically used in gardening, building maintenance and grounds services
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills with students, parents, teachers and school administrators
- To be able to work independently and with others as a team member
- Demonstrated ability to assess repairs quickly to enable maximum safety and to comply with Workplace Health and Safety legislation
- A demonstrated positive approach towards maintaining a high standard of service
Key Accountabilities
Typical duties performed may include but are not limited to:
- Basic maintenance and development of college facilities to grounds and gardens in accordance with schedules and routines or as directed by the Facilities Supervisor, Business Manager, Principal
- Ensuring all work tasks comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements by liaising with the WHS Officer
- Assisting with building and grounds maintenance, gardening, painting, general cleaning and washing down of facilities
- Carry out minor repairs to the school’s property and equipment as requested
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment for school functions
- Drive with safety and due care
- Organise and plan any ad-hoc transport requirements as required and approved
- Maintain the bus as per Department of Transport guidelines
- Carry out daily and weekly safety checks to ensure the bus is roadworthy at all times
