Job overview

One of the leading independent schools in Wales, Howell’s School offers a well-rounded and ambitious education for girls aged three to eighteen, in addition to boys aged sixteen to eighteen through Howell’s College. Howell’s is well-known for providing a happy and nurturing environment, full of opportunity, in which girls can achieve academic excellence, pursue a breadth of co-curricular passions and realise their true potential. As a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), girls are enabled to “learn without limits” and have fun in their journey to becoming the next generation of female leaders.

The GDST now seeks an inspirational leader to succeed Sally Davis, who will retire at the end of the academic year after 17 years of outstanding service as Head. The successful candidate will inherit a thriving school with a strong platform operationally and educationally and notable strengths in the quality of pastoral care and wellbeing. This role presents an exciting opportunity to deliver a vision that will sustain Howell’s School’s position as a market leader in Wales and as a front-runner in the education of girls and young women in the 21st century.

The successful candidate will be a confident, strategic thinker with the ability to drive positive change, inspire others, and embody the GDST’s values. Blending a respect for existing strengths with new ideas and an appetite for innovation, the next Head of Howell’s School will be a highly visible leader, with the strength of intellect, charisma and gravitas to work well with pupils, staff and parents. A passionate believer in girls’ education, the ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative school culture.
