Job overview

Following the launch of the new Bishop’s Stortford College brand, this is an exciting time to join the Marketing and Admissions Department as the College looks to build its reputation nationally and internationally.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Head of Admissions will play a key role in delivering the College Marketing and Recruitment strategy, ensuring we provide a first-class service to our applicants and stakeholders, developing new recruitment markets, and building and promoting the College brand externally.

Part of the College’s Professional Services, the Admissions Team provides the link to our prospective pupils and parents and ensures those pupils are admitted to the College efficiently and compliantly and that clear admission processes are in place. The Head of Admissions will be responsible for leading and developing the Admissions function, with particular responsibility for Senior School admissions, including sixth form, international (including UKVI pupils), and boarding.

This is a varied and challenging role, requiring excellent organisation, communication (written and verbal) and relationship building skills, with a primary focus on customer service. As an experienced admissions or sales professional, you will have experience of stakeholder and relationship management, and understand that a hands-on approach and a clear understanding of your product are essential to succeed in this role, along with the ability to manage and engage a team.

Whilst previous experience of school’s admissions would be beneficial, it is not essential, though you should have an enthusiasm for the sector and understanding of the changing landscape and our customers’ needs.

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A copy of the College’s Child Protection Policy is available on the website.

Bishop's Stortford College is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; all employees are subject to a number of pre-employment and safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check. References and an online search will be undertaken prior to interview. To this end, robust Safeguarding processes and procedures are in place to support families, pupils, staff, and volunteers. In compliance with the sharing of information guidance/best practice, any concerns are passed to designated teachers, trained in Safeguarding.

At Bishop’s Stortford College, we have built a wonderful, busy, cheerful, confident and highly successful community. Within this environment your child’s personal journey of discovery will begin the moment they join us.

Our school offers the whole package: breadth of opportunity, depth of academic enquiry, and quality of human values and skills.

Qualifications and Qualities

Academic qualifications are a prime focus for us, yet we know that qualifications alone will not suffice for a life fully lived. Human qualities of decency and kindness are also a large part of the ticket to success. Together, qualifications and qualities are what an education for today and tomorrow must deliver.

We provide specialist subject teachers throughout our Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior Schools and know that very good teachers at this very formative age have a very noticeable effect. We are selective based on academic ability, yet despite this, our value-added score is probably one of the best in the country. We are consistently in the top 7% nationally * meaning that our school makes the greatest difference.

Breadth and Balance

From whatever age your child joins us, life will be busy. They will be doing lots of different things, learning how to prioritise – to take charge of what they are doing and when. But even more importantly, your child will quickly find things they enjoy and become good at.

When they leave us, they will be well prepared for life beyond school, with a combination of abilities, some social, some academic and with choices – choices as to where to direct their efforts and enthusiasm. They will also have the confidence of knowing how to function in the new world that we are all going to embrace.

Community Spirit

We recognise the world your child will be entering and the skills they need. Learning to collaborate, to be a team player, to become friends with diverse, different people, will happen. Here there is a togetherness where none of us is as important as all of us.

The diversity of backgrounds, nationalities and ages of our pupils ensures horizons are expanded and everyone learns together and from each other.

We do not look like most schools of our type. We are different in some important ways. We are the modern face of independent education.
