Job overview
Do you see education and learning as a way of life rather than just a job? Are you a ‘risk-taker’ with a healthy balance between purposeful intensity and a good sense of humour? If so, then St Gilgen International School is looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic Head of Arts (Music Specialist, potentially with a performing arts / drama background as well) to contribute to the future growth of our amazing school.
The StGIS Arts department values all kinds of Performing, Creative, Expressive Arts and Artists, who contribute to fostering a lifelong love of the Arts and learning, as a force for positive change.
With this statement at the centre of our thinking, we surround this Arts vision with the StGIS Mission, Vision and Values. As a passionate community we inspire our students to discover their strengths and develop a lifelong love of learning so they can make a positive impact in this world. We do this by offering excellence in care, education and activities. Passion, Integrity and Excellence drives us. We enact the mission through a set of values and qualities including:
- Encouraging commitment to the Arts.
- Developing integrity of the self and respect for the Arts.
- Encouraging challenge and resilience through active participation, process and product.
- Fostering self-confidence, reflection and balance of the individual.
- To be creative and collaborative within the Arts programme.
- Encouraging students to be self-managers.
- Develop students' understanding, skills, knowledge and appreciation of the Arts.
- Advance the education of young people within a global mindset and encourage cultural diversity through the performance and study of the Arts.
- To celebrate success.
We believe that through our programme - which is underpinned by these mission, values and profile statements - students learn that there are diverse and equally valuable ways of conceptualising, researching, performing, creating, perceiving, expressing and using the Arts to understand that culture, people and societies are different, and that diversity is good. Students who learn to value art and culture through a global mindset can become more compassionate citizens. The Arts are a wonderful conduit for students to develop their understanding of humanity.
Thus, the successful candidate will be an excellent and innovative classroom practitioner with a passion for teaching Music and Arts across the full school age range. Experience of teaching at IB Diploma level, or equivalent, would be advantageous, as would IB Middle Years Programme experience. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to all aspects of learning within our 24/7 boarding school environment, including co-curricular activities, student mentoring and boarding house care; this does include some evening and weekend commitments.
St. Gilgen International School (StGIS) was founded in 2008 as a co-educational boarding and day school for students aged 9 to 18. In May 2016, ownership of the school passed to a not-for-profit foundation of parents of the school community (Privatstiftung). This ownership model harnesses our unique community spirit and drives us to work together in a continued effort to improve and grow. We are now embarking on our next chapter, going from strong to stronger together. If you want to be part of this journey, and work at a school that is friendly and purposeful; one which aspires to HIGH STANDARDS in a low threat atmosphere of collaboration and mutual support, then please review the attached information and submit your tailored application as detailed below.
