Job overview

The Hawthorns School is a thriving prep day school. Located on an idyllic 35-acre estate in Bletchingley, Surrey, our mission is to prepare each child for life and to inspire a love of learning.

We are seeking an inspiring and highly motivated individual to join our vibrant Sports Department to lead the delivery of Boys Games’ and PE. The successful candidate will teach PE and coach the main team sports offered for boys (football, rugby, hockey and cricket) across all Key Stages, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. The ability to teach in other areas of the curriculum, depending on specialist subject knowledge, or coaching the other sports offered (netball, hockey, tennis, swimming), will be considered favourably.

Candidates will have a warm approach and ensure high levels of enjoyment, participation and skill development for pupils. Candidates must be prepared to play a full part in School life, including taking teams for some weekend sports fixtures and involvement in co-curricular activities. In return, we offer a warm, friendly and inclusive working environment, a competitive salary, free lunches and free on-site parking.

Further details and an application pack are available on our website or from our Human Resources Manager, Emma Mitchell hr@hawthorns.com

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 6 December 2023 at 9.00am. However, applications will be considered in the order in which they are received, and the School reserves the right to make an appointment prior to the closing date should the ideal candidate(s) be identified.

The Hawthorns School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS check. All shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a ‘Suitability to work with children: self-declaration form’. This form must be completed and returned to HR prior to the interview taking place.
