Job overview

The North East’s leading independent girls’ day school has an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified, enthusiastic and motivated Head of Business.

We want our teaching staff to have high expectations of children and young people, including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential. Establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with all students is part of the ethos within our thriving school.

The successful candidate should have a secure knowledge, understanding and experience of both GCSE and A-Level Business, with the ability to contribute to business and enterprise co-curricular activities. The ability to teach A-Level Economics would be an advantage but is not essential.

About the Business Department

The Business Department is made up of a friendly team of specialised teachers, who are passionate about motivating and inspiring high aspirations in all our students. We are committed to providing a curriculum that is highly engaging and inspires a love of Business, helping to equip all of our students with skills and knowledge for their futures beyond school. A-Level Business has had a successful track record within school and this year we introduced GCSE Business to our curriculum offer. With a high uptake from students, we deliver the course across three classes in Year 10.

We have exceptional, state-of-the-art teaching facilities and a passion and commitment to developing STEM-related opportunities for all our students both internally and through our higher education partners and industry links. We offer a wide range of activities and opportunities to further support the curriculum, including clubs and competitions and through our membership of the wider Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) family of schools, an unrivalled host of further opportunities for our students and our staff.

Teaching and learning is at the heart of what we do and through the GDST training opportunities, you can develop your professional skills to reach your career aspirations.

Values and vision

Newcastle High School for Girl’s aim is to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment where girls feel challenged and inspired to achieve their full potential. It follows the four core values of girls first, networked, bold and principled.  The secondary school wants girls to feel that there is nothing they can’t achieve if they put their mind to it, and nurtures them as hard working, confident and resilient individuals. Newcastle High School offers learners a broad and balanced curriculum to provide girls with the skills, knowledge and experience to thrive in their future life and education. The school wants all girls to feel valued and cared for, while demonstrating respect and kindness to others, establishing lasting friendships and contributing to the school and wider community as active and positive citizens.

Academic rigour and exceptional teaching and learning are at the heart of an NHSG education. We offer an exciting curriculum delivered by inspirational teachers who are experts in the ways that girls learn best. And this doesn't stop at the classroom door. In fact, every minute of every day is packed full of learning opportunities. Our co-curriculum combines with our curriculum so that each girl has the opportunity to learn new skills, broaden her horizons and have a lot of fun along the way. The strong community and warm atmosphere created by our all-girl school provides the perfect environment for girls to gain confidence and excel.

Independent Schools Inspectorate

“The quality of the pupils’ overall achievements and of their learning, attitudes and skills is outstanding throughout the school. It meets very well the school’s aims to enable girls of all abilities to develop their intellectual curiosity, to become skilled and independent learners and to achieve their full potential.”
