Head of Business Studies & Economics (AY 2022-23)

Aldar Academies are seeking a Head of Business Studies & Economics for Al Bateen Academy commencing Academic Year 2022-2023.  

Al Bateen Academy is located in the center of the city of Abu Dhabi and is a hugely popular school based in a vibrant community. The school is a high achieving British and IB World School (Years 7 to 13) easily exceeding IB Diploma global averages year on year and achieving outstanding I/GCSE results. The school recently expanded into primary years, starting with FS2 to Year 3, and developed this year to include a full primary provision, FS2 to Year 6. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an exciting addition and provides the community with an all through school experience from FS1 to Year 13 offering PYP, UK and IB Diploma options.

Responsibilities  

• Assist academy in achieving its overall vision and strategic intentions and to contribute to the achievement of relevant targets as set out in the academy’s improvement plan and self-evaluation form 
• Lead strategic direction and development of the department, including but not limited to setting the vision, analysing data, improvement planning, target setting and ongoing self evaluation. 
• Further develop an outstanding teaching and learning culture ensuring outstanding achievement for all.  
• Lead on curriculum development ensuring outstanding provision for all, including an enhanced extra and co-curricular programme. 
• Leading whole school entrepreneurial activities.
• Lead and manage staff, including but not limited to overseeing staffing, recruitment, performance appraisal and professional development. 
• Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources, including but not limited to budget planning, timetable overview and talent acquisition. 
• Lead on the marketing of the department to promote the school, raise the profile of the subject and increase student numbers.  
• Communicate effectively and proactively with all stakeholders. 
• Play a lead role in developing key policies and practices that support the Academy’s overall aims, vision and values. 
• Other duties which may be reasonably assigned by the Principal

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications   

• Bachelor of Education Degree in Business/Economics or bachelor’s degree in equivalent field with PGCE or other teacher qualification.

Minimum Experience  

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in teaching Business/Economics (Mandatory), including 4 consecutive years of teaching performance that exceeds standards and expectations as per appraisal reviews

Job Specific Knowledge & Skill  

• Experience of a British Curriculum is essential, IB experience is desirable.
• Previous leadership experience is desirable. 
• Excellent communication skills 
• Previous experience working with students whom English is not their first language 
• Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child 
• A high level of professionalism and consideration of the well-being of children 
• Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities 
• A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life 
• A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check
