Head of Digital Technologies

Permanent, Full time

Leadership Scale L4-L7

To start September 2024

Do you want to be involved in developing the future digital work force? Do you want to lead an exciting department, specialising in digital technologies? We are in our third year and still growing as an academy. This is an opportunity to shape, develop and implement the curriculum and learning in our digital subjects.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, confident, and enthusiastic Head of Department. This is a key appointment and is integral to the continued growth and development of the academy. You will lead staff and students across the academy and bring ideas, ambition, creativity and high standards.

The BOA Group is a Multi-Academy Trust of specialist academies located in Birmingham city centre, in the hub of the creative and digital industries. Though based in Birmingham, the academies recruit from across the wider Midlands region.

The BOA Group is a distinctive Multi-Academy Trust, which has grown from our first school, Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA). We now have 3 purpose-built academies all close to the city centre.

BOA Digital Technologies, a brand new 11-18 Free School, welcomed its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2022. By September 2024 there will be three full year groups, Years 7 to 9. Our vision is to offer a truly unique and distinctive education and provide a new model of teaching underpinned by digital skills and learning. Located in the heart of Birmingham’s growing technology and digital hub, close to industrial and academic partners, and with first-class facilities, BOA Digital is looking to meet the UK’s growing need for a high-class digital workforce.

Ideally, we are looking for a colleague to take on the leadership of the specialism. This will involve working with an extensive range of industrial partners and planning exciting projects for all our students. You will guide subject teachers from other areas on how digital technologies can be used in different subject areas to enhance learning. But crucially, you will inspire our students on how digital technologies are being used in the work place and lead on the provision that enables appropriate digital skills to be taught.

We still want to here from you if you can make a difference at our academy.

You will encourage a climate of mutual support in which self-confidence and self-esteem across all staff at the academy grows year on year. It is an exciting place to work and our children represent the diversity of our city.

A full induction package and CPD opportunities are offered to help develop your teaching practice.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Qualified teacher status and a degree.
  • A strong track record in the classroom and has some leadership experience within a secondary school setting
  • A passion for creativity in digital subjects
  • The ability to work in collaboration with other members of staff to develop and manage digital technology projects
  • Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • The ability to guide students’ academic, personal, and professional development, in accordance with the academy’s guidelines and procedures
  • An understanding of the key national and educational policies and issues
  • The ability to inspire high achievement in young people from all backgrounds
  • Presence, enthusiasm, good sense of humour and approachability
  • An excellent record of punctuality

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the future of education within a world class academy. If you share the academy’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families, and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date for applications is 12pm on Wednesday 24th April 2024.

Interviews will be w/b 29th April 2024, however, we reserve the right to interview before the closing date.
