Job overview
Due to an internal promotion, Millfield wishes to appoint a Head of Economics from April 2025 to expand this thriving, forward-looking and well-resourced department. The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for the subject and a desire to inspire this in others. They must also be eager to develop their own teaching skills and share ideas with colleagues.
The successful candidate will be a well-qualified graduate who may have already had experience either running, or helping to run, a department. There is a range of teaching experience within the department; key to this role is the ability to coordinate and support all colleagues depending on their needs and areas of expertise. The ability to teach Economics up to A level is essential. The ability to teach Business Studies (GCSE and A level) is highly desirable.
The Head of Economics reports to the Assistant Head (Academic) and the Deputy Head (Academic).
About us
Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1,300 students at the senior school (year 9 to U6), with a 3:1 ratio of boarding to day. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries.
Set in over 100 acres of grounds, Millfield’s size brings great opportunity, and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf and cricket and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high-quality boarding accommodation.
Our aim is to discover brilliance in every child and to immerse them in academic, creative and sporting opportunities to develop this brilliance. We offer an exceptionally wide range of courses and provide multiple pathways through the school to meet the needs of the individual child.

About Millfield School
The modern world is highly competitive and the way we prepare our children for its demands is more important than ever. Young people today are subject to great pressures and it takes strong personalities to avoid the traps that life has lying in wait. Hence a good school must seek to develop confidence and maturity in all its pupils whatever their strengths and weaknesses.
All individuals have different needs and therefore a variety of opportunities must be available to enable each one to achieve success. They must learn to apply themselves to academic work but must also be encouraged to express their other talents.
With its outstanding facilities, a staff:pupil ratio of 1:7.5, an extraordinary range of academic courses and the unrivalled strength of its extra-curricular programme, Millfield strives to achieve all these aims.
