Principal: Mr. David Tansey

Located in the city of Hatyai in southern Thailand, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai is a co-educational International Independent School. Bloomsbury was founded in 2016 and offers a British style curriculum to both day and boarding students. Our school is small with around 200 students aged from 2-18, with an average class size of 15. We are a caring, kind team, committed to every student achieving their very best. The students here universally want to do well, and all interactions are based upon obvious and clear respect.

We have received our full accreditation from CIS, one of only 20 schools in Thailand to achieve this accolade. This is a great place to work, alongside a fully qualified, dedicated and friendly staff team.

As the majority of our students are Thai speakers, the acquisition of English is paramount to progress across all subjects, therefore this role is a vital one for the continued success of the school and our learners.

EAL at Bloomsbury

Improving students' English, and creating a more immersive English environment, are top priorities for this school where 90% of students have Thai as their first language.

We are keen to expand our provision, including by offering opportunities outside the normal school day. This colleague will manage that provision, and so the hours of work are likely to be different from the standard teacher's day.

We also wish to create an intensive English programme for students who are not yet able to access mainstream lessons sufficiently.

These developments will build on our exisiting provision. At present, students who need EAL support are withdrawn from some mainstream lessons and are given either individual or small group tuition. There is also some in-class support.

The successful candidate will lead a small but dedicated EAL team and teach groups in Key Stage 2 and 3. Another teacher takes groups in Key Stage 1. In secondary, there is a first and second language group for English in each year and students are withdrawn from Humanities. They are prepared for English First, English Second or English as an Additional Language IGCSE.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an excellent and experienced EAL teacher
  • Be experienced teaching in a school setting
  • Be creative, inovative and entrepreneurial
  • Have leadership and management experience, or demonstrable potential
  • Be familiar with the Cambridge English Qualifications and IELTS.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, colleagues and parents
  • Have a high level of professional integrity and adaptability
  • Be able to adapt to working with different and diverse cultures
  • Have excellent communication skills

Location

Hatyai is located in southern Thailand, only 40 minutes' drive from the nearest beach in Songkhla Town and within easy reach of Krabi, Phuket, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Koh Samui and Koh Lipe, as well as Penang and Langkawi across the border in Malaysia. The international airport offers 16 flights per day to Bangkok and daily flights to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, both of which are only a short distance away, opening up the rest of Asia. It is easy to spend your weekends or holidays exploring this beautiful part of the world.

Hatyai itself is an up and coming city without the high cost of living found in other more well known destinations in Thailand. There are large western style malls and supermarkets, and many bars and restaurants providing a range of international food, yet Hatyai retains a very 'Thai' feel and the population are very friendly and helpful, welcoming people with the famous 'Thai Smile'.
