This role is a senior leadership role with responsibility for a large faculty over 40 teachers as well as carrying a whole-school responsibility for some aspect of the college. Applicants are welcomed with relevant teaching and leadership experience.

Principal Purpose of Position: To be responsible for leadership and development of the faculty, ensuring high quality of teaching and learning.

Specific Responsibilities

Leadership

·       Be part of the Senior leadership team

·       Manage faculty staff, including assisting with recruitment, task allocation, and goal setting

·       Ensure objective and fair appraisal of all faculty members

·       Maintain a professional and effective faculty working environment

·       Support and develop subject leaders to maintain the highest quality of teaching and learning

·       Take the lead and manage a whole college responsibility based on skills and experience

·       Liaise with the exams officer to ensure all external assessment criteria are met

Strategic Development

·       Be responsible for leadership and development of the faculty

·       Liaise with other Heads of faculty and subject leaders to ensure suitable support within subject areas

·       Coordinate production of faculty reports and action plans as well as their implementation

·       Develop formative and sumative assessment strategies and collect suitable data for the faculty

·       Liase with ADP to organise a programme of professional development for the faculty

·       Ensure suitable publicity and promotion of the faculty both internally and externally

·       Coordinate Gifted and talented activities within the faculty in coordination with other heads of faculty

Teaching and Learning

·       Ensure high quality of teaching and learning within the faculty

·       Develop innovations that improve and extend student learning

·       Coordinate the development of the faculty in line with wider college goals

·       Support with the development, analysis, and review of the faculty

·       Support behaviour for learning statergies within faculty and support the pastoral team

Brief Description of SCIE

UK curriculum high school (Cambridge International AS/AL & IGCSE) teaching through the medium of English to mainly Chinese students preparing for overseas universities.

We are expanding our provision with the introduction of an AP stream, hence there are opportunities for teachers interested in some AP teaching in various AP subjects.

The mission of the College is to educate Students in a Challenging, International Environment leading to academic achievement at the highest level, and to develop Social responsibility, Creativity, Independence and Enthusiasm, providing each student with the best preparation for future opportunities.

· Highly selective – English and Mathematics admissions tests

· Medium of instruction & communication – AS/AL English, with students functioning at first language level, mostly studying AS/AL English language or literature in A1/A2

· 1800 students, High school only – UK Key Stages 4 & 5

· Accreditation – Fully accredited by Council of International Schools (CIS) & WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges in US) and regional members of FOBISIA & EARCOS

· Examinations – AS/AL, IGCSE (Cambridge International), GCSE&IGCSE (Edexcel) – English, Japanese, Drama & EPQ, and AP (CollegeBoard)

· Day & boarding school – teachers are not involved in boarding facility nor have evening or night duties

· Students complete IGCSE exams at end of G2, and then go on to 5/6 subjects at AS, and 4/5 at AL (including English)

· An AP curriculum is being introduced for the 2025-2026 academic year. Students will be given the opportunity to enter the AP curriculum after completing IGCSE exams in G2

· 48 Oxbridge offers and over 90% students applying to UK achieve offers from top 10 universities in 2024 cohort

· Class size maximum 26 at IGCSE and 24 at AS/A Level

Schedule

· Working week: Monday – Friday 07:50 – 16:30 (with 07:30 start Mondays and early finish 15:00 Fridays)

· Normal contact teaching time – 24 x 40-minute periods per week (approx. 50% timetable)[Head of Faculty with 50% lesson reduction]

· Personal time – 6 periods per week fixed in timetable when do not need to be at work.

· Extra-Curricular Activity – 1 hour per week ECA after school (16:30 – 17:30)

· CPD – large range of professional development available both online and face-to-face.

· Holidays – 1 week for October China National Day holiday, 2 weeks Christmas holiday, 3 weeks Chinese New Year holiday, Chinese public holidays, mid-June to early August Summer holiday.

Pastoral

· Undertake annual mandatory safeguarding training

· Promote awareness of pastoral issues which may arise in faculty area and ensure these are reported as necessary

· Ensure excellent health & safety standards within the faculty area for students & staff

· Contribute as appropriate to pastoral care throughout the school community

Shenzhen College of International Education:

Founded in 2003, SCIE is the city’s first full-time high school (Year 10 to Year 13) teaching an international curriculum. SCIE is a highly selective day and boarding school teaching an international curriculum to Chinese students preparing them for overseas universities. In August 2020, the College moved to its new purpose-built campus in Antuoshan, Shenzhen. The new site is fully equipped for the College expansion with smart classrooms, a large number of science laboratories, a 750-seat theatre, sports facilities and all that we need to facilitate the high quality teaching and learning of the College community. The top floor, with a comfortable staff lounge, gym and designated areas for meetings and CPD, is accessible to staff only. Staff are housed in the separate adjacent staff block, which offers two and three-bedroom furnished apartments.

Antuoshan is in Futian, the CBD district of Shenzhen. The campus is within walking distance to international shops, supermarkets and restaurants. It is a stone's throw away from the Antuo Hill subway station, giving easy and convenient access to the city’s extensive metro network.
