As a specialist charity we exist to support and empower those with autism. To think we started over 54 years ago in a family home and now we employ over 400 people across the south of England just shows how far we have come, and much more to achieve!

We offer a variety of services from education at Portfield School, entering adulthood at Futures 18-25 and a remarkable adult services programme.

We are recruiting for an experienced Head of Governance to join our executive team on a four/ five day basis. This role is crucial in ensuring our charity positively impacts the people we support. 

A day in the life of Head of Governance would include:

  • Acting as first point of contact for compliments, complaints and feedback
  • Reviewing and administering governance policies and procedures
  • Leading all charity governance activity such as booking meetings, diary management, collating papers, governor induction 
  • Attending team meetings and highly sensitive governance briefings

Our ideal candidate must have:

  • A membership with the Chartered Governance Institute
  • Ideally a background within education or legal
  • Strong organisational skills 
  • The ability to undertake tasks short notice and prioritise a busy workload

What we do

At Portfield School we are proud of a truly unique curriculum design, which is flexible, creative and tailored to the individual. The curriculum offer is holistic and enables the self-confidence, resilience and self-advocacy of the students to bloom as well as allowing the individual to achieve accredited qualifications. In addition to academic achievement, we build emotional wellbeing and resilience and develop the students’ social and independence skills.

Our holistic curriculum includes not only education, but also therapy, the development of skills for life, independence, and a focus on accessing the world of work through a highly tailored work experience programme.
