Location: Kampala International School Uganda (KISU)
Position Overview:
The Head of Learning Support is responsible for leading and managing the support services for students with special educational needs, disabilities, and learning challenges at KISU.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Learning Support Department, including management of learning support staff.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and interventions for students with diverse learning needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external specialists to provide tailored support.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of students receiving learning support, using data to inform practice.
- Provide professional development and training for staff on inclusive teaching practices and learning support strategies.
- Liaise with school leadership to align learning support strategies with the overall educational vision and goals.
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulations related to special education and learning support.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, and the broader community.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends, research, and best practices in special education and inclusive teaching.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, or related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within an international school setting.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of various teaching strategies, assessment tools, and intervention methods suitable for students with diverse learning needs.
- Familiarity with local and international regulations and guidelines regarding learning support and special education.
- Proficiency in technology and ability to use relevant software for tracking and reporting student progress.

KISU offers a truly holistic education to students from 50 different countries, with staff from 13 nations. KISU is located in central Kampala in a low rise residential area. The school is based on a beautifully landscaped 25 acre plot. The school has excellent facilities including: an 8-lane swimming pool, indoor sports centre, auditorium, outdoor theatre, 2 amphitheaters, 3 IT labs, 2 libraries and 5 acres of playing fields. There are specialist teaching areas for Science, Art, Drama, Lego Robotics, Music and Food Technology. All classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards. KISU offers a modified version of the English National Curriculum up to Year 9, followed by IGCSEs and then the IB Diploma. KISU students are inclusive, diligent and well-behaved and are proud of their school. The school's admissions policy is inclusive and there is learning support available to those who may need it.

The School
Founded in 1993, Kampala International School, Uganda began as a small primary school with a curriculum based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. KISU has evolved considerably over the years and has undertaken an ambitious programme of expansion and development. It now boasts a purpose built school with excellent sporting facilities. The Enriched Curriculum
KISU has a programme of studies based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. French is taught to all children from Year One upwards. A programme of personal, social and health education(PSHE) is implemented throughout the school. The curriculum has been adapted to reflect the international diversity of our school community and its location in Uganda.
