We seek an experienced and well-qualified teacher of Physical Education to teach primarily in the Junior School, but with the flexibility to teach across the age range from 3 to 18. Working alongside the whole-school Director of Sport who acts as line manager to the Senior and Junior School Heads of PE, you will lead a highly committed team of specialists delivering curriculum PE including IGCSE. The Physical Education Department works effectively as a team across the whole school, sharing ideas, promoting learning and contributing to high academic standards. Previous experience of leadership roles in Physical Education in a UK National Curriculum or a British-style international school context is desirable.

Person Specification
- graduate in Physical Education or a related subject with Qualified Teacher Status and a MINIMUM of three years teaching experience post-QTS;
- enthusiastic and innovative teacher with a genuine passion for teaching, who can motivate and inspire students using a variety of strategies;
- recent experience teaching PE within the National Curriculum for England and (I)GCSE;
- previous experience of subject leadership is desirable but not essential;
- includes Assessment for Learning as an integral part of classroom practice;
- understands how to stretch more able students and support weaker pupils;
- works collaboratively as a member of a team;
- committed to her/his own professional development;
- understands an inquiry-based approach to learning;
- committed to a holistic approach to education;
- enjoys the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities;
- meets the school’s Safeguarding requirements in full.
To comply with Egyptian employment law, applicants must have QTS and a MINIMUM of three years teaching post qualification teaching experience.
Remuneration
The British International School, Cairo (BISC) operates a similar teaching scale to schools in the UK which increases with teaching experience. All salaries are tax free and paid in Pounds Sterling. The current basic salary for a teacher with three years’ experience is £34,000 p.a. while the salary of the majority of staff (six years experience or more) is over £40,000 p.a.
In addition all overseas contract teachers benefit from a generous housing allowance (circa £1000 per month), private BUPA Gold medical insurance, annual return flights to the UK, and 2 free places for children of school age.

BISC was established in 1976 and has a reputation as one of the most successful schools in the Middle East. In the Junior School, teachers receive specialist support in a variety of subjects and all classes have a bilingual Teaching Assistant to support the class teacher.
