Job overview

Job title: Head of Preparatory School

Location: Casterton Sedbergh Preparatory School

Contract type: Full-time, permanent

Reporting to: Sedbergh School Headmaster

Salary: Competitive salary with generous accommodation

Start date: January 2025

Closing date: 28th January 2024

The School is located in a spectacular country setting in the village of Casterton and commands stunning views over the Lune Valley. The Senior School occupies its own site some ten miles away in Sedbergh. Pupils are expected to transfer to the Senior School at year 9.

Pupils willingly adopt the ethos of ‘give it a go and try your best’ in all their activities at the School. A broad-based and stimulating curriculum, allied to a plethora of extra-curricular opportunities, provides the pupils with the platform from which their confidence and skill sets can grow and where they can reach their potential. Much store is placed in a strong sense of ‘community’; the close-knit family feel of the School and the outstanding pastoral care provided produce young adults who are confident, tolerant, ambitious and open-minded; qualities that will hold them in good stead for the next phase of their Sedbergh journey.

The Head will be appointed by the Governors of Sedbergh School and will be responsible to that body. The post benefits from the financial security of being allied to a senior school with the added benefits for the Head to work closely with the Senior School Headmaster. The post, therefore, would suit either a successful Head or an outstanding candidate seeking their first Headship.

Further information about the role can be found in the Candidate Information Brochure attached in documents.

Sedbergh School is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
