Job overview
HEAD OF PRIMARY PHASE
If you are an outstanding leader, inspirational with strategic vision, then this is an exciting opportunity for you to be part of our school. We are located in a pleasant residential area and enjoy views of the South Downs.
The Governors and Headteacher of The Cavendish School Academy Trust invite applications for the leadership of the Primary phase of this popular and successful school. We are a co-educational comprehensive school of currently 760 Secondary Phase pupils. In September 2015 the School opened the Primary phase with a two form entry Reception to become an All-Through school in existing school buildings. In September 2016, we opened our new Primary Phase building which also incorporated a Pre-School. The primary phase has currently 270 pupils from Reception age to Year 4.
The Primary phase has been highly oversubscribed for the past two years. Parents cite academic focus, academic results, the dedication of staff and the modern, purpose-built environment, as reasons for choosing the school for their children. The school has a strong ethos and pupils are eager to learn.
As the Head of Primary Phase at Cavendish, you would have access to a number of resources offered by us as all-through school, such as whole school professional development, data processing, an attendance office, and excellent outdoor and sporting facilities
The successful candidate, a committed professional, will be:
• A passionate educator
• Able to work collaboratively with the Headteacher in shaping the development of the Primary Phase.
• An inspirational leader with the ability to mobilise a team
• Able to motivate and raise pupil achievement
• Actively promoting the school in the wider community
• Continue developing a happy and secure environment for pupils and staff

About Cavendish School
Cavendish School first opened its doors in 1979, in the town of Eastbourne, East Sussex. Originally a co-educational secondary comprehensive, the school became an academy in 2012 and expanded to become an all-through school in 2015, after extensive planning and redevelopment. The addition of primary provision is intended to smooth the transition between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, although Cavendish School readily accepts pupils from other primary schools. Cavendish Education Trust was formed in 2021, which encompases Cavendish School and a local Infant and Junior school. The Trust develops our approach to a cohesive curriculum and a smooth transition between all key stages.
We believe that staff make a difference to children and place staff development at the centre of our strategic planning. Promoting the continuous professional development of our staff is one of our highest priorities as we believe this is a vitally important part of improving outcomes for young people. Cavendish School is proud of its record in developing staff and on the quality of CPD more widely.
Staff Wellbeing is our priority at Cavendish School and are always investigating new initiatives to promote wellbeing as part of our schools’ priority to develop and implement a mental health and wellbeing strategy. We offer our staff the following:
- Wellbeing groups are set up at each school to discuss and enhance staff wellbeing;
- Free Flu Vaccinations are offered annually;
- An Employee Assistance Programme (counselling service) is available to staff and their family members for confidential support and advice on financial and welfare issues;
- Childcare vouchers are available as part of a salary sacrifice scheme;
- A cycle to work bike scheme, to save and spread out the cost of a new bicycle as part of a salary sacrifice scheme;
- A welcoming staff room with complimentary tea and coffee;
- Support and mentoring by Senior Leadership Team and other experienced leaders;
- Tailored CPD and staff development;
- Local Government Pension Scheme / Teachers Pension Scheme.
Our schools promote excellence in everything they do. In every school, the entire staff team works in partnership with parents and the local community in nurturing today's young people and inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.
Thank you for your interest in working with us.
