Job overview

This role is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated educator to shape and lead language learning at BBIS at the Primary level, fostering students' growth as confident, multilingual global citizens.

The role of the Head of PYP Additional Languages & EAL Teacher is to lead and coordinate the Primary School’s language programs. This includes English as an Additional Language (EAL), Spanish, and Hungarian for both native level and non-native level speakers, as well as fostering the development of Mother Tongues. The role is pivotal in supporting language acquisition across the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and ensuring seamless integration with the school’s inquiry-based curriculum.

Budapest British International School (BBIS) is seeking an exceptional, innovative educator to join our community. BBIS provides a 'students first' education, where every child is recognised, valued and included. We are guided by the values of the IB and the mission of our founder: academic excellence by achieving more than you think you can.

BBIS' creative, inspiring educators work in a collaborative, student-centred learning environment. You will be joining a highly supportive team of professional educators in a dynamic environment.

Successful candidates should:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Language Acquisition, or a related field; teaching qualification required.
  • Proven experience in teaching EAL or additional languages within a Primary School, ideally in an international or IB context.
  • Relevant leadership experience

Tell us how you think you could add value to our school. Please use the TES application form to submit your details, along with your letter of application and your most recent CV.

Please contact the school office for any specific information you might require. You are most welcome to speak to our Head of Primary for an informal conversation before making an application by contacting jonathan.spinks@bbis.hu

Please note: Early applications are encouraged, and we reserve the right to interview and appoint before the closing date. Interviews will take place in person or by Google Meet, depending on location.

About Budapest British International School

At Budapest British International School, we believe that a successful education is all about inspired, imaginative teaching, centred on the learner as an individual. We nurture students not only to achieve academic success but also to become true global citizens.

BBIS is an International Baccalaureate World School. We work with children from the Early Years who enjoy the Primary Years Learning Activites within our Candidacy Programme. This is the basis of their learning and then as the children become young adults, we work within the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma in our Secondary School. Our school community is made up of over 420 students from over 30 nations. We pride ourselves on a small family with big ambitions!

BBIS is the only school in Budapest to offer a Secondary continuum of IB-accredited programmes: the IB MYP and DP.

Our programmes feature an inquiry approach that aligns student interests with what they learn, thereby enriching their natural curiosity and promoting a love of learning. Our team of internationally-experienced, skilled and passionate teachers model the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and encourage students to respect themselves, others and the world around them.

A strong sense of common purpose pervades our learning community. We believe that trust and strong parental participation are an integral part of quality education and we see parents as our partners in their children’s learning journey.

Thank you for your interest in BBIS. We look forward to welcoming you.
