Are you prepared to work collaboratively and openly for the benefit of young people?

If so, Bolton St Catherine’s Academy would love to hear from you!

We are a 3-16 all age fully inclusive Academy and offer state-of-the-art facilities in an amazing £36 million building providing staff with the opportunity to teach in a cutting edge and vibrant environment.

We are a school with a mission to provide the best school experience for every child in our school community so that their life chances are transformed. To support us on this mission, we are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and inspiring Head of School for our Secondary division to join us.

BSCA is on a journey. Our primary school is flourishing. Children are leaving us making great progress from what are often low starting points. They are unfailingly polite and attendance is well above national average. We now need to replicate this throughout our secondary school and are looking for the right person to help us achieve this. The right person will be full of moral purpose. They will understand the nature of a challenging context and love working within one, never making excuses but still full of empathy. They will relentlessly search for ways to remove the most stubborn barriers to learning. They will be deeply passionate about social justice and driven to break poverty cycles. They will do this with passion, energy and great humour.

The staff are full of moral purpose. Many have been here for years, it is easy to see why when you get to know us. Many are aspirant leaders, keen to develop further. The right person will be that champion for them, helping them pursue their dreams in return for being champions for our children.

We want to develop you too. This is the perfect training ground for your own headship, under an experienced Headteacher who will give you the autonomy to really run with your own operational leadership of the secondary, while exposing you to all the things you never really get to see or learn about until you are a Headteacher.

The Head of School, under the direction of the Headteacher will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the school, providing leadership and management in line with the vision of the Trust. As well as being an excellent practitioner in their own right, the head of school is expected to play a leading role in bringing best practice to their school to enable out students to succeed in education and in life, whilst also ensuring the school is an engaging and safe place to work for our staff.

Key Duties will include:

  • Establish and oversee systems, processes and policies so that the school can operate effectively.
  • Identify problems and barriers to school effectiveness, and develop strategies for school improvement that are realistic, timely and suited to the school’s context.
  • Ensure that the school improvement strategies are effectively implemented.
  • Create a culture where pupils experience a positive and enriching school life.
  • Uphold education standards in order to prepare pupils from all backgrounds for their next phase of education and life.
  • Ensure a culture of staff professionalism and wellbeing.
  • Maintain and sustain high-quality teaching across all subjects and phases, based on evidence.

In return we offer you:

  • A strong commitment to your ongoing professional development.
  • Mentoring by and support from an experienced headteacher, CEO and Trust Central team.
  • Support of fellow Headteachers and staff from across the Trust and the opportunity to work collaboratively with other school leaders throughout the Trust.
  • The chance to make a real difference to the lives of our inspiring children and young people.
  • A rewarding role with the opportunity to really make your mark and show real impact.
  • Access to other employee benefits offered by our Trust.

Candidates are warmly welcomed and encouraged to speak with the Headteacher, Rachael Lucas and visit Bolton St Catherine’s Academy. To arrange this please contact Samantha Cass by emailing scass@boltonstcatherinesacademy.org.uk.
