Matthews Hall is seeking a new Head of School to serve as academic leader and chief executive officer, with the appointment to be effective July 2025. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with a supportive Board, talented faculty, staff, and students, and highly engaged parents and volunteers to build on past achievements and lead Matthews Hall to new levels of excellence.

Matthews Hall, London Ontario’s only independent, CAIS accredited school, has more than 200 students from Kindergarten through Grade 8, with aspirations to extend to the secondary school level. As a special place of learning since 1918, the School has become much respected for its high standards in academics, the arts, sports and personal development. A central belief of Matthews Hall, which guides all planning and activity, is the philosophy of 100% participation and inclusion. Students are expected and supported to show their potential. With a recent campus revitalization, Matthews Hall provides inviting classrooms, several acres of well-equipped grounds to encourage active play, a library, gymnasium, peace garden, performing arts studio, drama studio, computer lab, art gallery and outdoor classroom

Known as the “Forest City” for the more than 160,000 trees lining its streets and parks, Greater London is a vibrant metropolitan area of more than 600,000 people, 200 kilometres west of Toronto. London combines urban, suburban and country lifestyles with affordable housing and reasonable commuting times. Access to the United States and major Canadian cities is easily available by road, rail or air. With premier medical and educational institutions, London has a diverse economy that crosses telecommunications, manufacturing, research and education.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, the Head of School leads and directs the implementation of the School’s mission and guiding principles. They ensure that the School meets and exceeds its standards of academic excellence through developing and implementing appropriate action plans, building a high quality administrative and faculty team, and establishing positive relationships within the School and the broader community. The new Head of School will serve as the face of Matthews Hall School to the community at large, responsible for overall marketing, recruitment, enrolment and institutional advancement. There are a number of new opportunities for exciting future initiatives that will further enhance the School.

The successful candidate for this position will be an outstanding individual with excellent academic credentials and a proven track record of educational administration, ideally within an independent school environment. They should possess a perspective compatible with the School’s mission and guiding principles, as well as the ability to communicate them effectively and lead the School towards their achievement. Team building and communication abilities, strong public relations and marketing skills, strategic thinking capabilities, a proven track record of recruitment and fundraising success, creativity in continuing an exceptional educational program, an understanding of the role of independent schools, and an excellent rapport with children, are all qualities desired in the Head.

Compensation is competitive and the School contributes to the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
