We are seeking to recruit a charismatic, highly skilled, and dynamic Head of School with strong leadership skills who is driven by a clear sense of purpose and wants to create positive change in the lives of young people. You’ll be working with a dedicated staff team that has the energy and experience to take the school to the next level.

The successful individual will take a key role in developing a school development plan while continuing to raise standards and promote strong values. Our aim is to develop a sustainable and stimulating educational experience that places our pupils at the centre of all that we do.

MBIS is run under the leadership of the Principal and their Senior Leadership. Support and challenge are provided by an elected Board. Established in 1995, MBIS resides on purpose-built premises, combining modern and Arabic architecture, in relatively calm and leafy Maadi, historically an ex-pat area of Cairo.

For our Head of School position, we are looking for the below qualifications:

1. Masters level qualifications such as NPQH qualification

2. Recent leadership & management training

3. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

A person who has experience of:

1. Leading a successful UK and/or international primary/middle school for at least 5

years

2. Senior leadership in a number of different UK and/or international schools

3. Extensive leadership experience.

4. Monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning

5. Raising school standards

6. Leading and managing a range of school initiatives

7. Leading staff development/building effective teams

8. Leading a school through inspection

9. Working with school parents’ groups and the wider community

10. Marketing a school to drive student roll

11. Leading and managing a school through expansion (advantageous)

A person who is able to:

1. Champion the aims and ethos of the school

2. Lead a relentless pursuit of excellence in education for all

3. Support and work effectively with the Board of Directors

4. Lead strategic school development

5. Demonstrate outstanding and extensive practice in the classroom

6. Coach and mentor colleagues to achieve specific outcomes

7. Be flexible and supportive of staff; deal sensitively with individuals and resolve

conflicts

8. Lead and coordinate staff development activities

9. Facilitate a collaborative approach to decision-making/school change

10. Communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences (verbal, written, digital)

11. Motivate and inspire confidence in children, staff, parents, Board and the wider

community in order to further develop and promote the school

12. Delegate and monitor effectively

13. Attract, retain and develop managerial and educational talent

14. Think creatively and logically to solve problems and identify opportunities

15. Employ high levels of self-organisation/prioritisation

16. Demonstrate integrity, diplomacy, tenacity, and resilience

17. Show humour, a caring nature, energy, and enthusiasm

A person with a good knowledge and understanding of:

1. How children learn in a high-achieving and successful school

2. How to blend the best of premium British education with contemporary international

thinking to secure high-quality provision at MBIS

3. A commitment to developing the whole child through an enriched curriculum

4. Target setting; pupil tracking; benchmarking and other methods of analyzing both

pupil attainment and achievements

5. Strategies for inclusion and development of all children

6. Current education trends and issues

7. How to maximize delegated leadership

8. Developing, monitoring and reviewing the School Development Plan

9. Working in partnership with parents from a range of different cultures and societies

10. Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures and legislation

The school is organised into three main phases:

Primary

  • EYFS (Pre-Nursery to Year 2);
  • Key Stage 1 (Year 1 to Year 2)
  • Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to Year 6).

Secondary

  • Key Stage 3 (Year 7 to year 9)
  • Key Stage 4 (Year 10 to Year 11) IGCSE
  • Key Stage 5 (Starting 2024)

The experienced staff and small class sizes at MBIS ensure individual attention and high quality learning. Currently there are 35 full-time, British trained teachers. All year groups have Learning Support Assistants. Primary students benefit from specialist teachers in Music, MFL, ICT, Drama and PE. Secondary students are taught by skilled and knowledgeable subject specialists in all areas of the curriculum.

A wide range of after school activities is open to the children – including creative and performing arts, sports and academic clubs. A comprehensive calendar of educational day visits also supports the children’s learning. Year 4 to Year 11 children participate in residential experiences in Egypt, Cyprus and Europe – designed to promote personal and social development. Across the academic year, all phases of the school stage a musical performance for the parent community.

Connections with neighbouring schools are active, enabling valuable partnership learning opportunities for the children (eg. Literacy Festivals, Music Weekends, Science Days, football tournaments, swimming galas) and professional development opportunities for staff.

The home-school partnership is very strong at MBIS. Our Helping Hands. parents help us to organise fantastic community events - International Family Fun Day, Halloween, the Christmas Fair are major affairs, enjoyed by all. Parents are also actively encouraged to participate in class-based learning activities and school trips.

The active School Council ensures representation across the year groups, as well as organising charity work and age-banded social events.
