Head of School

Black Rhino Academy is a co-educational day and boarding school in Karatu, Northern Tanzania. We are looking for a new Head of School to help our school grow as we move into secondary levels in August 2023. We welcomed our first primary class in 2017, so as a fairly young school we are looking for a candidate willing to work with the Co-Founders to develop our school culture and lead our teachers and staff into the next phase of growth.

We believe that learning is about more than academics. Our approach emphasises critical thinking, problem solving, and interactive experiences. We instil in our students a love of learning and global citizenship through play, inclusivity and respect for each other. 

We are located on the edge of Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site, and a short drive from the Serengeti National Park as well as other Northern Circuit National Parks. We are registered with Cambridge International Examinations and currently offer pre-primary and primary education from Nursery Class to Year 6. We are therefore looking for someone with experience leading secondary levels who can build our lower secondary classes from Year 7-9 and still oversee and improve our primary levels. The successful candidate should have experience leading secondary or primary schools either in the UK or abroad as well as experience overseeing the Cambridge Curriculum. 

A successful candidate should be able to adapt to new cultures and be willing to mentor our mostly Tanzanian teachers in their professional growth as teachers in the classroom as well as in leadership positions. Experience in overseeing boarding facilities is an added advantage as we currently have around 24 boarders and hope to double this number in the next 2 years.
