Job overview
St Constantine’s International School is seeking a new Head of School. The school, part of the prestigious Round Square network, has been providing high-quality education to international and local students for nearly 70 years and is governed by The Hellenic Foundation of Tanzania. With two campuses, its main Burka campus is a beautiful, green, tree-lined facility including extensive sports facilities. Since 2011, the school has also run a purpose-built Lower Primary School in the center of Arusha.
Founded in 1952, St Constantine’s is one of the pre-eminent schools in East Africa. The school has an enviable location on the doorstep of Arusha National Park, at the foot of Mount Meru, and within striking distance of Kilimanjaro. Its clean air, unspoiled environment, and incredible scenery make for an extremely family-friendly environment. Educational standards within the school are high, based on the Cambridge International Curriculum, IGCSE’s, and A-Levels. In the last two years, there has been a 100% pass rate at A level with nearly 80% of Year 11 students achieving a minimum of 5 GCSEs (incl. English and Maths). A wide range of extra and co-curricular activities, innovation, and enrichment help us strive towards our Round Square mission and ‘making school unmissable’ motto by offering the opportunity to develop each student’s uniqueness.
At the present time, the student roll stands at 575, with over 30 different nationalities. Staff, including support staff, number over 120, with the main faculty countries of origin being UK, Kenya, and Tanzania, together with further nationalities from all around the world.
The role becomes vacant in August 2021 and our new Head of School should have experience of working happily and successfully in all, or with most, of the following:
• an all-through (Nursery to Year 13) educational setting preferably as a Head of School or Principal
• a school with an inclusive admissions and teaching and learning ethos

• a school which expects the highest standards from all members of its community but offers compassion, understanding, and support
• an institution that develops promotes, and has implemented innovative educational ideas and practices
• an institution which pursues holistic education and/or character-based education, fitting our Round Square membership
You will have qualified teacher status, excellent interpersonal skills, rapid and well-developed decision-making abilities, clear and evidenced leadership qualities, together with a positive can-do attitude and real determination to succeed. Flexibility and adaptability, high level organisational skills and an eye for detail are also pre-requisites. A good sense of humour and patience would sometimes be useful!
To apply, email your CV (that must include three referees, one of whom must be your current employer) and a cover letter, of no more than two pages, that details why you would be a great addition to our school, to hr@scis.sc.tz
Referees will only be approached with the candidate’s permission.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. If an exceptional candidate is found, St. Constantine’s reserves the right to employ the right candidate before the stated closing date so early applications are advised.
SCIS is totally committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and expects the same from its employees. All new staff will be subject to detailed and enhanced pre-employment clearance, including identity checks, criminal background checks for all countries lived in, qualification checks, employment checks to include an exploration of any gaps in employment, and satisfactory reference checks for all employment in the last 5 years.
