Job overview

Nord Anglia Education has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an outstanding, internationally-experienced leader in education to drive the ongoing success of its highly regarded school The Metropolitan School of Panama (the MET).

The School

The MET was founded in 2011 with a vision of creating an international school of excellence, staffed with the best teachers, and where each child would feel included, happy, motivated and inspired to learn.

Within the first three years, the MET earned status as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, part of a community of international schools with the reputation of delivering the highest standards of education. The MET became the first and only school in Panama and Central America to offer the IB Continuum in English, authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP), positioning the MET within a special group of schools worldwide.

The school joined Nord Anglia Education (NAE) in 2017, and then moved to a new 5-hectare campus in Green Valley in 2020. Surrounded by vibrant greenery and wildlife, our state-of-the-art five-hectare campus has been architecturally designed to enhance learning in every possible way, from the design of our classroom "neighborhoods" to our world-class STEAM and arts facilities.

As a member of the Nord Anglia Education family of schools, The MET draws on the strength of this forward-thinking, premium and contemporary global network of over 80 schools in 33 different countries. The school actively engages in Nord Anglia’s collaboration with Juilliard, MIT, UNICEF, IMG Academy and King’s College London, and benefits from access to the organisation’s Global Campus. These create unique opportunities for students and staff to unlock their potential.

The Role

We seek a talented and experienced leader in education to continue to build upon the school’s tremendous success to date. The Head of School takes responsibility for the leadership, organisation and management of the whole school. The post-holder’s key deliverables are aligned with the annual school quality review and the school’s strategic plan. She/he must be an excellent communicator and compelling storyteller to ensure our new families understand our dynamic educational offer for their children, which will in turn drive strong student enrolment.

Key objectives include education quality and outcomes, student well-being, school growth, financial targets, staff development, and resource utilisation.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be an excellent communicator and compelling storyteller
  • Understand how to blend the best of premium education with contemporary international thinking to maintain a distinctive positioning for the school
  • Understand that leading learning is at the heart of school leadership and will build a team committed to delivering this
  • Drive the marketing and admissions process of the school with passion and a focus on quality that grows both the school and the school’s reputation
  • Collaborate and build high-performing teams
  • Engage with students, teachers, parents and community leaders in a manner that is open, inclusive and conveys the values of NAE and CPB.
  • Manage financial budgets and commercial aspects of the school with astuteness and engage with, and contribute successfully to, the wider organisation
  • Demonstrate the ability to create and execute a strategic plan and manage complex projects

The MET was founded in 2011 by a collection of parents who established a new standard of high-quality private school education in Panama that would become a reference of excellence in the region, guided by the very best teaching and learning practices in the world. By welcoming students and families from many different parts of the world, the MET creates an environment where every child feels included, happy, and inspired to learn.

Within its first three years, the MET was accredited as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, part of a worldwide community of international schools with an excellent reputation for delivering the gold standard in education. The MET became the first and only school in Panama and across Central America to offer the IB in English, which includes the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

Since then, we’ve moved to our five-hectare, purpose-built campus in Green Valley, we’ve continued to celebrate our success as an IB school, delivering excellent results over the past 12 years.

In 2017, the MET joined Nord Anglia Education, the world's leading international schools’ organization with a family of sister schools located in 33 countries. Together with Nord Anglia’s global family, we share a common commitment to the vision that there’s no limit to what our students can achieve.
