Job overview
Required for September 2025, we are seeking to appoint a Head of Science Faculty to deliver an ambitious vision for Science across the Academy. This is a key strategic post and we are looking for applicants who have a proven track record of success with the ability to inspire colleagues and ensure high academic outcomes in Science.
The Science Faculty at Ashmole Academy is very well resourced and has a dynamic and dedicated team, passionate about igniting curiosity in our students for the wonders of science in the world around us. Our innovative curriculum empowers students to think critically like scientists, while developing their knowledge and skills, as we strive to inspire and nurture the next generation of science specialists. Our Science team constantly contributes towards pedagogical improvements across the Academy and offers students an engaging curriculum. This is complemented by a strong extra-curricular provision and Scholar’s programme.
Science is a major strength of the Academy and our results are outstanding. In 2024, at GCSE almost two thirds of our separate science students achieved at least a Grade 8, and almost 30% achieved a Grade 9. Approximately three quarters of our combined science students achieved a grade 5 or above. At A-Level, approximately 60% of Science students achieved A*-B and 28% achieved A*-A. Many of our Science students go on to study at Russell Group universities.
As Head of Faculty, you will line manage the Head of Biology, Head of Chemistry, Head of Physics and Head of Psychology to sustain a culture of excellence, aspiration and care within the faculty.
Ashmole Academy is ranked as one of the most successful secondary schools in the country. In the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2025, we are recognised as the second highest riser school, climbing 143 places, and now ranked 193rd.
Situated near Southgate Station, we have an excellent reputation within the local community and benefit from strong support from governors, parents, students and a dedicated and highly motivated team of staff. We pride ourselves on maintaining a high level of mutual respect between students and all staff and continue to support other schools as a former Behaviour Hub lead school. Our examination results are consistently high and the Academy remains heavily oversubscribed every year. We celebrate diversity and have been awarded a Gold Equalities Award as a recognition of our commitment to equality.
Ofsted: Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. They are highly respectful of others and of their teachers.
