We are looking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic Head of Science who has a passion for their subject and a commitment to ensuring that staff and students share that passion.
You will lead a team to inspire the next generation of young scientists and have the ability to drive forward that vision for your department. We want a candidate who is going to take us to the next level of excellence at KS3, KS4 and KS5.
The Elmgreen School became part of the Dunraven Educational Trust in September 2021, and together, we are focused on developing an exciting, dynamic and progressive community, focused on improving the outcomes for children and their families.
Key Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to provide professional leadership and management for Science, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning and the achievement and engagement of students in line with our vision and ethos.
Responsible for the Heads of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, the Lead Science Technician, and the departmental staff team, you will:
- provide professional leadership for the department;
- lead curriculum development for the department in line with national initiatives and in support of the aims of the school;
- develop and implement policies and practices which reflect the school’s commitment to high achievement and effective teaching and learning.
Dunraven Educational Trust Overview
Dunraven Educational Trust (DET) was established in 2016. It now incorporates Dunraven’s All-Through School, Goldfinch Primary, The Elmgreen School, Rosendale Primary School and Van Gogh Primary. DET is a Trust committed to one overarching aim: excellence for and from everyone. This is an expectation for both the children and adults in a school community. It is achieved in a variety of ways according to the context of each school but within the clear framework established by the Trust.
If you are successful in your application, you will join a staff who are hard-working, committed, positive in outlook and dedicated to the achievement of our students. We also offer:
- a high standard of professional practice, with bespoke in-house CPD provision and affiliation to nationally recognised courses and providers;
- a supportive and collegiate environment;
- a culture of high trust and accountability that values creativity and innovation, leading practice locally and nationally in a range of fields.

About The Elmgreen School
The Elmgreen School is an 11-18 comprehensive at the heart of its community. We are a school that offers its staff excellent opportunities for professional growth in a beautiful environment. We live by Elmgreen motto, ‘We look after ourselves, We look after each other, We look after our school, We look after our community.’ If you believe you share those values and want the absolute best for every young person you teach then we are the school for you.
We believe that learning is a lifelong activity and we also ensure that we make our students ready for the world beyond school. Our network of schools through the Dunraven Educational Trust and links with local, national and international education ensures that we more than fulfil this remit. At Elmgreen, we have consistently good teaching and learning in a calm, ordered environment. Education should enrich every individual in our society, regardless of where they come from. That is what education at The Elmgreen School is based on.
The Elmgreen School is a special place to learn. It strives for high results and the highest aspirations whilst also retaining strong core values. I hope that by navigating our school website you can get a sense of what we can offer, what we stand for and what we can achieve together.
Why choose us?
Elmgreen is a true community school for staff and students. We have a very low staff turnover, particularly for a London school because people love to work here. The school develops its staff through a fabulous Early Career Teacher Programme and a very large proportion of our more experienced staff are pursuing further qualifications in terms of their professional development. We are all continuous learners at The Elmgreen School.
This is also a school that believes in finding and developing talent. The vast majority of Middle and Senior Leaders in both teaching and non teaching positions have been developed and promoted through the school. It’s good to know that you are coming to a school that has your development at its heart. The Headteacher has been in post for ten years and the Senior Team are highly experienced and very supportive. Further support comes through the Dunbraven Educational Trust with real opportunities for collaborative work.
The school is committed to diversity and the staff, across all areas of the school, are fully representative of the population that they serve. This is something we are very proud of.
We think this is a great school to join. We look forward to your application.
