We are looking to appoint an ambitious, motivated and forward-thinking Head of Social Sciences. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom teacher with a track record of supporting students and teachers to promote a love of the subject and secure good outcomes.
At Malbank, we offer GCSE Psychology, GCSE Sociology and from September 2025 we will also offer the Technical Award in Child Development & Care in the Early Years. At Key Stage 5, we offer A-Level Psychology, Sociology and Level 3 Criminology. The successful candidate will lead on these subjects. Health and Social care is also delivered at KS4 and 5.
The Social Science team is made up of the Head of department and two full-time teachers, with a third colleague teaching largely Health and Social care, each with their own classroom. In addition, the team have a Social Science workspace and staffroom.
Continued Professional Development is valued and supported with a timetabled fortnightly CPD slot, weekly training sessions and a calendared CPD programme.
The Head of Social Science is responsible for leading their team to ensure that:
· The curriculum is appropriately sequenced and resourced to develop knowledge and skills across KS 4 and 5.
· Teaching and learning across the department is effective, making the 60 matter for all learners.
· Assessments are planned to link to the curriculum aims and show progress over time.
· Assessment data can be used to identify under achievement and teaching be adapted appropriately so that all learners can achieve.
· Knowledge of the latest developments in this field are kept up to date with effective CPD and collaboration.
