Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting Academy targets on attendance and behaviour, as agreed with Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, Principal and Governing Body
  • Line managing tutors, including:
  • Ensuring regular phone calls to students who are doing well/are cause for concern
  • Ensuring they are managing the attendance of students whose attendance is between 95% and 100%, and that attendance certificates and rewards are distributed weekly
  • Improving the attendance of any student whose attendance falls between 90% and 95%, and ensuring less than 10% of students in Faculty become persistently absent
  • Taking responsibility for all students who are at negative boundary 2 to ensure poor behaviour does not continue to escalate towards negative boundary 3
  • Supporting tutors and allowing them to escalate for support as appropriate and take responsibility for tutor periods of any students who are disruptive
  • Ensuring daily phone calls happen for any child who is transferred out of a lesson, and that appropriate support is put into place to ensure transfers across the year group reduce and that effective action is in place if it does happen
  • Meeting with the Assistant Principal each week to identify students whose behaviour is a concern, evidencing support that is in place and its impact
  • Ensuring the tutor programme is implemented and that tutors are effective in their role, which includes delivery of age appropriate Safeguarding programme and development of British Values
  • Supporting ALT in monitoring student reports, including the DSL by attending/preparing TAC meetings or other Safeguarding meetings as appropriate

Qualifications & Experience

We would like to hear from you if you:

  • Hold QTS and a good undergraduate degree
  • Are an experienced teacher
  • Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
  • Have knowledge of National curriculum requirements at KS3, KS4 and KS5
  • Understand the importance of having high expectations for all students, both of behaviour and academic achievement
  • Understand inclusive provision and practices, which offer equality of access to the curriculum for all students, including special educational needs, English as an additional language and high achievers
  • Have knowledge and experience of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students work

Harris Academy Merton is an 11-18 co-educational Academy for 1,500 students. The Academy opened in September 2006 on the site of the predecessor school. The Academy benefits from a brand new state-of-the-art Post 16 block and high quality buildings. Harris Merton is judged by Ofsted to be an Outstanding School. Harris Merton offers specialisms in Enterprise and Science. It is an oversubscribed school at the heart of its local community.
