Head Teacher

The Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School

Start date: September 2024

Salary: SR – L29-35

The Governors of The Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School wish to appoint an exceptional Head teacher to deliver our vision. As the Christian leader of our school, the Head teacher will support and actively promote the distinctive ethos of our Church of England school.

Our Church of England secondary school is a Christian learning community which is inclusive, mixed and voluntary aided. It is situated in the beautiful City of Hereford, and currently has some 1100 students aged 11-16.

The current Ofsted judgement of Good was achieved in July 2021. The report is exceptionally positive and reflects the rapid improvement achieved by the school since the two previous inspection gradings of RI in 2017 & 2019.

“Senior leaders and governors are passionate about giving pupils the best education and care possible” – Ofsted 2021

The school has continued to grow from strength to strength as the first-choice of preference for September 2024, currently reported by the LA at 197 places out of a PAN of 220. Most year groups now have waiting lists for entry.

Our ethos of care, respect for others, courtesy and a warm community feeling creates an atmosphere where our students can make the very best of their talents to achieve success and be inspired to chase their dreams. Our students are well behaved, positive, willing, and eager to learn. They are supported by an enthusiastic, hardworking, committed team of staff, who want the very best for all students. The range and quality of the sporting and other extracurricular activities that the school provides are an important strength of the school.

Our community is proud of our school and have very high expectations and ambitions for its future. We recognise there are challenges ahead to enable us to fulfil our full potential and we need an inspirational Head teacher to turn our vision into a reality.

We need a leader who shares our passion to build on the progress made to date and who will harness and develop the strengths of our school by leading, inspiring, motivating and supporting students, staff and the wider school community in the next phase of our development.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven demonstrable successful track record of senior leadership;
  • A clear strategic vision, expertise, innovation and drive to fulfil our school’s potential;
  • The skill to embed and promote the school’s Christian ethos;
  • A commitment to ensuring high quality inspirational teaching and learning for all;
  • The creativity and vision to engage, inspire and lead change with successful outcomes;
  • Highly effective communication skills that will motivate and enable all key stakeholders and the wider community to support our school vision.

If you are looking for a new and exciting challenge and want to be part of our school’s success, then we would like to hear from you.

Values and vision

The Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School aims to be a vibrant Christian learning community enabling students to flourish academically and socially. The school’s central ethos is one of providing care, respecting the needs of others, showing courtesy and providing a warm community feel which provides an atmosphere where its students can make the very best of their talents to achieve success and are inspired to chase their dreams.

Student participation in the organisation of the school is also encouraged. It encourages this through its school council, eco-council, roles such as prefects, librarians and peer listeners and participation in staff interviews. It is believed that this helps to ensure students are well prepared for adult membership of a rapidly changing society.

Ofsted

“Teaching is good and much is outstanding. In these lessons, teachers show enthusiasm for their subject; their planning is sharply focused with clear objectives and the lessons themselves capture students’ interest, with good pace and challenge. The behaviour of students is exemplary in class and around the school. Students feel outstandingly safe and have a mature understanding of safety and risk. Their attendance is above average and is improving further. Bullying is rare and is dealt with swiftly. School leaders are rigorous in monitoring students’ progress and the quality of teaching.”
