School Values
We will act with cooperation because we are a community.
We will use creativity to learn and grow.
We will show consideration as everyone is of equal value and importance.
Rhodes Avenue Primary School serves part of Wood Green, close to Alexandra Palace and Muswell Hill, within the London Borough of Haringey. We are a three-form entry school and currently have 697 children on roll. The school has a very stable community and pupil mobility is 3.29%. The percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals (FSM) is 4.87% and the percentage eligible for Pupil Premium funding is 4.44%. The percentage of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is 9.89% and the percentage of children with English as an Additional Language is 24.1%.
Rhodes Avenue Primary School’s last OFSTED inspection was in September 2021 and the school was graded as Outstanding. The school has an excellent local reputation and is popular and over-subscribed.
We are seeking to appoint a permanent headteacher following the sudden and untimely death of our previous headteacher in February 2023. The deputy headteacher is currently in post as interim headteacher and the rest of the senior leadership team currently comprises one permanent assistant headteacher and two interim assistant headteachers.
Staff and the Governing Body believe that Rhodes Avenue Primary is a very special place where our children are at the heart of all we do. We have high aspirations and celebrate all levels and genres of achievement. We are a school which promotes optimism and develops self belief, ambition and challenge across the curriculum, within an inclusive environment.
The school’s ethos and values support parents and families in raising children who will grow to become responsible adults, ready to meet the demands of a fast-moving world, whilst treasuring the awe, wonder and magic of childhood. We support our pupils to grow – but not too fast!
We embrace our pivotal role in the community that we serve. Rhodes Avenue Primary School acknowledges the importance of contributing to the wider society beyond the school gates and we strive to fulfil this role and the concomitant responsibilities – within the school, within our local environment and beyond in wider society – in both the physical and virtual worlds. The school aims to ensure that its pupils and staff develop as global citizens in order that they are able to seize and shape the world that awaits them.
We are looking for an exceptional, committed and inspiring person with a proven record in educational leadership to share and drive our ambition and strategic vision. Your energy and enthusiasm will challenge and empower all members of the school.
Our future headteacher will have strong leadership skills and be able to manage the demands of a large London primary school. The school has a strong, motivated, and dedicated team of teaching and support staff, committed to ensuring high achievement and equality of opportunity for all. Rhodes Avenue is proudly committed to anti-racism; all staff have committed to being actively anti-racist in all aspects of our life, both inside and outside of school, talking to the children about race and identity, making our classroom and school an anti-racist space and bringing tangible action by using our talents and privilege to make a difference.
The role is suitable for an experienced leader who is looking for another headship or an experienced deputy capable of stepping up to meet the challenges of the post. Governors have high expectations and are positive and supportive.
The new Headteacher will benefit from:
- Enthusiastic and well-behaved pupils who want to learn and take part in all aspects of school life.
- Experienced and dedicated staff who are committed to providing the best possible education for the pupils.
- Supportive parents and a local community who want the school to succeed.
- Outstanding Ofsted rating as of September 2021.
- A supportive and experienced governing body.
- Access to support from Haringey Education Partnership who provide a wide range of support for local schools.
