The Priory School is a vibrant and inclusive Foundation School, which is both rooted in and actively involved in its local community. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and innovative leader who is keen to take their professional next step and will be proud to lead this uniquely placed, co-educational school.

About our school:

The Priory School is located on the edge of Hitchin, a highly sought-after market town with excellent local amenities and transport links. It boasts a brand new sixth form centre, a funded specialist SEND unit and a spacious 27-acre site with great sports facilities. As a Foundation school, we work closely with our local educational authority. We deliver a broad and varied subject curriculum (encompassing the National curriculum), but in addition also deliver a wide ranging, extra-curricular offering. The Priory School is a genuinely welcoming working environment, with a supportive and experienced dedicated staff team. We aim to provide our students with an excellent standard of education, focused on both progress and attainment, whilst promoting the core values of responsibility, respect, and resilience. Our vision is to empower every student to develop and meet their aspirations, to be self-confident, inspirational and active members of their community. We believe in developing happy, well rounded, focussed and resilient individuals.

Our new headteacher will:

  • Share and represent our core values
  • Be a visible and active member of the community, both inside and outside of school
  • Lead the school in a friendly, positive manner, empowering the SLT and staff and ensuring that they continue to feel valued
  • Lead (not just run) the school and manage change effectively, to build on existing good practice and implement a strategic and ambitious vision for the school.
  • Be progressive, forward-looking, and visionary, with the enthusiasm and energy to challenge preconceptions and drive innovation
  • Proactively manage school budgets, identifying cost-effective solutions to increase resources for the school
  • Focus on staff and student wellbeing and engage well with parents
  • Be equally supportive of all student groups (including PP, SEND, HA and all others)

We Offer:

  • Confident students, who are keen to learn and take part and are proud of their school
  • A dedicated and experienced SLT and staff team
  • A modern, well-resourced school, with fantastic new sports facilities, on an expansive and well-maintained site
  • A strong and engaged Governing Board, passionate about the school, with a wide range of expertise
  • Excellent links with local community groups and other local schools
  • A competitive remuneration package
  • Extensive CPD and support to meet your individual needs
