Job overview

We’re looking for a Headteacher!

We’re Co-op Academy Brierley – a brand new special academy in Leeds (LS9) and we’re looking to appoint our first Headteacher to provide exceptional strategic leadership, vision and management of the academy from September 2023.

Our new academy will offer an outstanding, inclusive and inspirational learning experience for pupils aged 4-16 with a wide range of complex educational and medical needs. As our first Headteacher you will contribute to our success from the outset, playing a key role in shaping, developing and establishing Co-op Academy Brierley as an outstanding place in which to work and learn. This is a truly unique opportunity to be involved from day one in the operational and strategic planning and preparation of the academy and in securing high standards that will drive year on year success.

You will be joining a highly collaborative and successful partnership of schools in East Leeds, with four other schools in our Trust in LS9, all rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. As a growing and ambitious Trust we can also offer successful candidates huge opportunities for development and career progression.

The opening of Co-op Academy Brierley will be delivered by a key team of incredibly talented individuals from across our Trust and partner organisations. It will initially be based in a brand new, purpose-built extension at our Co-op Academy Nightingale site (LS9) from September 2023, before moving to newly built, state of the art premises on Cross Green Lane (LS9). This new facility will provide an outstanding working and learning environment for our colleagues and young people and will sit within a wider site undergoing significant redevelopment by Leeds City Council.

We would welcome interest from successful Principals/Headteachers and ambitious, successful Deputy Headteachers wanting a new challenge or a relocation (we cover some of these costs and housing is much cheaper ‘up north’). So, if you’re a dynamic and inspirational leader, committed to creating opportunities for the personal and academic growth of students with Special Educational Needs, then we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Benefits include:

What you do here really counts. And we offer a range of benefits and rewards to recognise the part you play in our success. Whether they benefit your finances, your wellbeing, or your family, in or outside work. From career progression and working and making a difference within your local community, to a whole range of financial discounts and benefits, working at Co-op Academies Trust isn’t just your standard job.

We offer competitive salaries and access to the Teachers Pension Scheme, as well as travel season ticket loans, 24-hour access to free money support, and for colleagues who want to save or need help managing finances we have savings and loan products which can be deducted from your pay.

We want you to stay happy and healthy. So as a teaching colleague you’ll get the school holiday period off work. And even better, we offer a free flu vaccine, cycle to work scheme; 24-hour access to free health and wellbeing support and discounted gym membership at Nuffield gyms.

We also offer a 10% discount on Co-op branded Food, with regular increased promotional discounts and offers at various points in the year.

Our values:

We have a strong culture which creates a positive working environment. We follow the Co-op’s ‘Ways of Being’ which are:

  • Succeed together – Cooperating is what makes us different; we’re better and stronger when we work together.
  • Be yourself, always – We bring our best self to the academy, so that we each contribute and respect others for doing the same. Of course, being yourself isn’t about excusing poor behaviours that contradict our other Ways of Being Co-op.
  • Do what matters most – What matters most is ensuring that our students achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Show you care – We care about our Trust, our colleagues, our students, their parents, our Co-op and communities, now and for the future.

So, if you believe in our values we would love to hear from you!
