Following the promotion of our current Headteacher, the opportunity has arisen to lead the popular Birklands Primary School, currently rated Good. The successful candidate will be supported by a friendly, forward-thinking and professionally engaged staff who work hard to ensure the school’s continuous improvement. With a keen focus on overcoming barriers to success, our staff ensure that children are happy and exceptionally well-behaved. With the engagement of families and a positive governing body, this is a school with a strong ethos striving to achieve the very best for children and raising aspiration.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • Recent and successful experience (at least 3 years) as a senior leader in a primary school or academy, with a proven track record of exemplary teaching practice and of leading school improvement and raising achievement.
  • Evidence of successfully leading and managing change in pursuit of strategic objectives which are translated into action plans to ensure the educational success of the school on its journey towards outstanding.
  • Knowledge and understanding of primary and early years education including current national policy framework and initiatives, combined with experience of using assessment data to track and analyse pupil progress and setting targets for improvement.
  • Successful experience of coaching and mentoring colleagues to achieve continuous improvement to ensure that all staff reach their full potential.
  • Knowledge and experience of preparing and participating in school inspections, including in-depth knowledge and understanding of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance ensuring that appropriate systems are in place and communicated effectively.
  • Ability to think strategically and articulate a clear vision which is implemented through managed and monitored action plans that introduce appropriate innovation whilst building on the school’s vision and successes to date.
  • A strong motivation and drive, demonstrating high standards of behaviour and integrity that quickly gains credibility as a leader committed to the inclusive development of young people and staff.
  • An interest in evidence-informed practice, especially linked to the work of John Hattie and visible learning.
