We are seeking an exceptional headteacher, with recent experience of working in secondary schools, to provide excellent leadership which enables the highest standards and promotes a warm and happy school community.

This is an outstanding opportunity for the right candidate to bring their track record of successful school leadership to a good, and well established, school. We are looking for candidates who are committed to the south west, driven by challenge and are known for their ability to inspire and develop their team. With the team they will take the school to exceptional/outstanding.

Queen Elizabeth's School is a place where all people are empowered. The school has a rich and proud history stretching back over 475 years. We are a large, 2 site, 11-18 school with just over 1200 students. In May 2022, the school was graded ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted. Progress scores in 2022 and 2023, at both GCSE and A Level, were above national averages. Our students are well behaved, friendly and respond exceptionally well to good teaching. The overwhelming feeling in our school is one of friendliness. Our staff are fantastic and determined to deliver our core purpose - Educating to Empower.

The school is part of the Ted Wragg Trust. Our Trust headteachers are pivotal in achieving the Trust’s collective mission ‘to transform lives and strengthen communities to make the world a better place. 

All Trust headteachers receive a comprehensive induction programme, a range of development opportunities, a personal development plan and a supportive Trust network to ensure their success in the role.

About Queen Elizabeth's School

Queen Elizabeth’s is a mixed, mainstream, non-denominational, secondary day and boarding school in Crediton, Devon. The school caters to students aged 11 to 18 and has approximately 1,400 pupils enrolled.

Queen Elizabeth’s converted to academy status in April 2011. The school started as a grammar school, then became a boarding grammar for boys and girls, and is now the only state boarding school in Devon. It is part of the Teaching School Alliance.

Queen Elizabeth’s main aim is to empower students to enjoy the art of learning. It strives to create a community of smart, educated and successful young people who will be global citizens in a 21st-century world. Teachers believe education and hard work are integral to success and their two principles are "education to empower" and "always progressing".

The curriculum emphasises the core subjects of English, maths, science, PE, RE and personal development, as well as the humanities. Extra-curricular activities are encouraged, especially the expressive arts, technology and sports. The school’s outdoor programme includes Ten Tors and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
