Job overview

Crowdys Hill School is a large, maintained Special School in Swindon, for students with moderate learning difficulties and complex additional needs, aged 5-19 years.

Our Sixth Form is based across 2 sites with students working towards employment following The Vocational Pathway at Swindon New College, North Star site in Swindon; “Crowdys at College”

Our school has recently undergone a period of rapid growth, more than doubling in size since 2016. We are a happy, vibrant, ambitious and unique school, providing an education that leads our students into fulfilling and productive adult lives.

As Headteacher, you will be at the forefront of driving our school’s continued success and development. This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to lead our school that is both academically ambitious and deeply committed to meeting the complex needs of its students. We are looking for a Headteacher who is not only a strategic leader but also a compassionate and inspirational figure, who can ensure that the needs of our children remain central to everything we do.

In this role, you will have the chance to shape the future of SEND education within the school and beyond. Working closely with the leadership team, teaching staff, and support staff, you will create a shared vision for the school’s growth, ensuring that we continue to raise the standards of teaching, learning, and care that our students deserve.

The successful candidate will have:-

  • Wide and recent experience with working with children with relevant SEN(D) and their families
  • Proven, substantial leadership experience at Deputy Head level or above
  • A proven commitment to school improvement through a collaborative approach, including work with other schools
  • A creative, clear and thoughtful approach to successfully delivering the school’s priorities
  • A flexible, pragmatic and positive approach to managing change
  • A working knowledge and understanding of school finances
  • Experience of working closely with the Governing Body and the Local Authority to support school improvement.

 Crowdys Hill School will provide:-

  • The opportunity to work with our brilliant young people and staff
  • A dedicated, welcoming and hardworking team of staff
  • A committed and experienced leadership team
  • A Governing Body which is committed to your ongoing professional development
  • A school community that welcomes innovation and nurtures talent
  • A school building that boasts excellent facilities, including a substantial on-site farm.

Candidates are warmly invited and encouraged to visit the school. To take up this opportunity, please contact Trudy Topp (ttopp@crowdyshill.swindon.sch.uk or 01793 332400) at the school to arrange.

At Crowdys Hill, we are committed to creating a vibrant and supportive learning community for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our ethos is founded on the belief that every child, regardless of their individual challenges, deserves the opportunity to excel in an environment that values their uniqueness and potential.

We strive to provide a tailored approach to education that not only meets their academic needs but also supports their social and emotional development.

Our school’s core values — respect, inclusion, empathy, and aspiration — underpin all that we do. We recognise that every student is an individual, and we aim to unlock their potential by providing a bespoke curriculum that adapts to their needs and fosters a sense of achievement and belonging. By focusing on building confidence, resilience, and a love for learning, we aim to prepare our students for success both within and beyond the classroom.

The curriculum at Crowdys Hill is designed to build students' self-esteem and aspirations, focusing not only on academic achievement but also on social success, personal milestones, and extracurricular involvement. As a school we ensure that students have regular opportunities to showcase their achievements—whether that’s through art exhibitions, drama performances, sports events, or other personalised celebrations of success. These events build a sense of pride and help reinforce that every achievement, no matter how small, is a step forward.
