Headteacher Vacancy – Carlton, Leeds
Salary: L18 – L24 (£65,699-£77,237)
Start date: September 2023
Carlton Primary School is a dynamic, welcoming and successful school set in a semi-rural village location between Leeds and Wakefield within easy access of the A1, M62 and M1 motorways.
These are exciting times at Carlton Primary School. At our last inspection, we were judged as ‘good’, and the school has continued to go from strength to strength. Our latest Ofsted report in February 2020 said:
‘Pupils are happy and proud to attend Carlton Primary School. They are safe because adults in school look after them well.’ and
‘Personal development is a strength of the school. Pupils have many opportunities for leadership. For example, they have helped to introduce healthy school dinners and they help younger pupils with reading.’
The Governors are looking for a dynamic and inspirational leader who will lead the existing team and build on the progress and achievements already secured during the last three years.
The successful applicant will be committed and innovative with the capacity to unlock the potential in each and every child, providing a nurturing and enriching primary school experience.
We are looking for:
- a visible, competent and experienced leader who will fulfil the vision and values of the school
- a leader who will continue to drive innovative school improvement, building on the firm foundations already in place
- an outward-facing and collaborative leader who will secure excellence in learning, teaching and continuous improvement throughout all key stages by challenging, inspiring and motivating those around them
- a passionate individual who will shape our school provision to meet the needs of all our children and keep our learners happy, healthy and safe
- a leader with the expertise to manage all layers of staff, empowering them and developing their leadership potential
Our new Headteacher will bring:
- innovative, strategic and empowering leadership skills with a vision that inspires and motivates others
- the energy and creativity to drive curriculum innovation at the same time as maintaining existing practices that are working effectively
- a rigorous approach in identifying pupil achievement gaps and an imaginative approach to interventions to address these gaps in all groups of children
- a commitment to embedding achievement for all pupils, including those who have Special Education Needs and to ensure their needs are met.
- the ability to communicate clearly with all stakeholders, including staff, pupils, parents and the governing body
- a demonstrable track record of developing a team to meet the high expectations required and unlocking their leadership potential
- an ability to turn challenging situations into positive outcomes
In return, we can offer:
- inquisitive, vibrant and well-behaved children who are hardworking, caring and proud to attend their school.
- a dedicated and hardworking staff team with a wide spectrum of experience who are keen to build on the school’s existing strengths.
- a supportive, well-informed governing body committed to enabling the ongoing success of the school with regular monitoring by insisting on leadership with high aspirational aims.
- an energetic and determined PTA which goes from strength to strength in support of the school
- an induction process supported by the Governing body and the Local Authority
We would be happy to accept applications from school leaders, including Headteachers, Heads of School, Deputy Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers with relevant strong school leadership experience.
We strongly encourage potential candidates to visit the school to experience what it has to offer, although understand that this may not be possible. Please contact our School Business Manager, Maxine Haist on 0113 3783040 to arrange a visit on 22nd February (AM) or 23rd February (PM). We will also try and accommodate ‘out of hours’ visits.
Closing date for applications is Sunday 5th March
Shortlisting will take place on 9th March
Assessment and interviews will take place on Monday 20th & Tuesday 21st March
