Kettlethorpe High School is far from just another school. The last non-academy in Wakefield, we are a truly comprehensive place of learning where 1,700 pupils of all backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities, and circumstances come together to share perspectives and become positive, motivated, well-rounded, and high-achieving young people.

Our holistic view of education is about far more than just examination results, important as they are. So, whilst we have achieved the best English Baccalaureate results across the Wakefield district for the last four years, we place equal emphasis on our extracurricular offer. The hard work of our staff delivers a unique and enriching programme of arts, sport, and trips. This broadens minds and stimulates our pupils to embrace the diverse and ever-changing world. What is more, we see our school as the heart of the community, so we take the lead in the Wakefield Learning Community alongside 12 schools/academies, two colleges, special schools, and the hospital school. Over the last decade, the school community has raised over £110,000 for local and national charities.

It is little wonder, then, that our recent Ofsted inspection noted that ‘pupils told inspectors they were lucky to attend the school’ and that ‘pupils leave with fond memories, aware of the considerable impact the school has had in preparing them as young adults’. It went on to comment that ‘the ways pupils are supported with their wider development is noteworthy, and parents and carers hold the school in high regard’.

However, Kettlethorpe High School is not just a great place to study. It is great to work too, and as our next headteacher, you will make it even more impressive over time. Ideally, you will already be a Headteacher, but we are equally happy to hear from ambitious, focused, and passionate school leaders looking for the next step up. What matters most is that you share our ethos on education, with a pupil-centred mindset, a high level of emotional intelligence and strong financial acumen. Above all, you will need real insight into the changing educational landscape to keep us at the forefront of innovation and best practice whilst retaining the caring and inclusive culture that makes the school unique.
