Responsible for: Health and Safety across the Secondary School 

Main purpose 

The Health and Safety Officer  

• Participates in the development of Health and Safety internal policies, procedures and working practices within the School
• Conducts risk assessments and develops strategies for facilitating employee/student health and safety risks
• Outlines safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
• Conducts regular site/laboratory inspections to ensure adherence to Health and Safety policies and procedures
• Prepares and maintains inspection records and produces reports that suggest improvements
• Maintains incident records and produces statistics for management as required
• Investigates and reports on all personal injury accidents and damage to property occurring on campus and document in an incident report
• Maintains a working knowledge of Health and Safety best practices and industry policy changes
• Produces health and safety related reports, newsletters and bulletins
• Advises on a range of specialist areas including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases
• Provides safety orientations and oversee the performance of all contractors in order to ensure safe work practices are followed
• Initiates and organizes safety awareness campaigns, including occupational safety workshops and training sessions, in an effort to ensure that students and staff observe established safety guidelines and procedures
• Initiates and conducts emergency evacuation drills
• Carries out regular safety and security inspections of various college facilities, systems and equipment, including first-aid rooms, construction areas, electrical systems, fire extinguishers and fire hydrants to ensure compliance with international standards
• Advises on health and safety aspects in the planning and execution of college events
• Provides immediate support and assistance in the event of an emergency
• Establishes mechanisms to meet international standards and UAE regulations
• To act as liaison with all related governmental bodies KHDA,DHA,DCD and DM
• Travels to other Schools to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as required
• Contributes to the development of the School by observing and implementing School and system-wide policies and procedures, and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
• Develops an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures of School students and employees
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
• Leading the Health and Safety team with KHDA/DHA/DM inspections and applying the protocols during the pandemic time as per KHDA regulations.
• To assist in the appointment of all non-academic staff and to be responsible for their induction, training, and appraisal, Security, maintenance, cleaning and other general site services within the premises

Qualifications and training 

• Appropriate Health and Safety Qualification
• Undergraduate Degree (Essential) 
• Professional development in preparation for a HSO role (Essential) 

Experience 

• Experience in a similar role  for at least 2 years (Essential)
