Compliance Responsibilities:

Keep abreast of the latest national laws and regulations, industry norms, certification (such as CIS/WASC) standards related to the business within your responsibilities, maintain a high level of professional ethics and requirements, and ensure that management decisions, policy making and work practices fully comply with the above regulations, standards and requirements; Revise relevant internal policies, procedures and the release of information in time when relevant regulations and requirements are changed or updated, and remind promptly relevant personnel and departments within the school to ensure that the school operation is always in compliance.


Position Aims


Co-curricular activities play a vital role in supporting YK Pao School’s Mission of developing the whole person, passing on traditions of Chinese culture, and promoting an international perspective. The Director of Co-Curricular Activities (DCA) ensures that these programs are of the highest quality, that they address the diverse interests of our student body, and that they are offered in a balanced and coordinated manner.


The DCA helps students develop a balance between academic and co-curricular pursuits. The DCA also supports activities supervisors in developing their own relevant skills. A key role is to build sprit and a sense of community among students and parents. This includes working closely with relevant colleagues at the Primary Division to promote continuity of student experience between the two campuses. The DCA finds ways to promote and market YK Pao School in the wider Shanghai community. The DCA finds appropriate ways to engage parent support for the co-curricular programme. The DCA coordinates the work of colleagues in related areas of the High School co-curricular programme such as competitive sports, performing arts, Xueyuan competitions and Zhixing.


Key Responsibilities:


The DCA oversees and supports the following:

1. The development and maintenance of all aspects of the co-curricular programme at the YK Pao High School (YKPHS); this includes maximizing the quality and sustainability of all activities, as well as the consistency of student expectations between activities;

2. The communication of appropriate information to all stakeholders in an effective manner (inc. electronic, web-based, at meetings, and via presentations);

3. The coordination of meeting/practice schedules for all co-curricular activities, including the equitable allocation of time, venues and other resources;

4. Collaboration with colleagues from the YKPS Primary School and Middle School to promote consistency and continuity in the co-curricular programmes on each campus, as appropriate;

5. The balancing of co-curricular programme offerings in the four broad areas of creative, active, service and academic;

6. The development and maintenance of the online YKPHS Activities Handbook;

7. Support for the YKPHS character education programme within the co-curricular programme. This will include, but is not limited to, the establishment of expectations for student leadership positions;

8. The development and maintenance of local, regional and international interscholastic opportunities that support our programme goals, are appropriate to the ages of YKPHS students, and are complementary to the activities offered at the school;

9. To oversee the effective and safe running of the Zhixing programme;

10. To run the Xueyuan competitions and ensure high levels of involvement and enthusiasm amongst students and staff;

11. Although not a member of CLT, Representation of the co-curricular programme in the meeting of the campus leadership team and other relevant groups when required;

12. Collaboration with the general services department on the scheduling and maintenance of facilities;

13. In close collaboration with the Principal, the creation and management of an annual co-curricular activities budget, including the subsequent allocation of funds to new and ongoing activities;

14. The implementation of processes for the establishment of new clubs and activities;

15. The allocation and monitoring of effective teacher supervision for all officially endorsed YKPSS co-curricular activities.


Job Requirements:


1. Completion of a BA degree.

2. Experience and proven ability in developing and leading a balanced, high quality school activities programme that is both differentiated and sensitive to the developmental needs of Y6-12 students.

3. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in other departments of the school, including performing arts and athletics to ensure balance in our programme;

4. Excellent organization skills and high attention to detail;

5. Outstanding interpersonal skills;

6. Support for the YK Pao School mission and core beliefs as the underlying philosophy of the co-curricular programme;

7. Competency with use of technology including word processing, spreadsheet development, survey technologies, and web based applications such as Moodle.
