Job overview
We are looking for hard-working individuals to join our ASD Centre as Higher Level Teaching Assistants (one role is five-days per week; one role is two-days per week).
The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility, and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical, and extra-curricular activities.
About the role
The Marion Centre is a specialist resource base, which supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The centre was set up in 2009 and moved to a £5m purpose-built building in 2013. We have an excellent team of teaching and support staff who provide all students with a very high quality of education. There are 66 students within the centre. Nearly all students are taught exclusively by centre staff. Upon transfer to secondary school, many students are functioning at P scale levels within National curriculum. Therefore, these students receive a specialist curriculum in place to support their individual needs and pathway.
There are two roles available, one operating over five days per week; while the other operating over two days per week. The successful post holders will work with class teachers, and students to support progress in learning and help overcome barriers to learning. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), there will be direct work with small groups of students, as well as covering planning, preparation and assessment time of designated teaching staff. The post would suit an individual with experience of working with students with additional learning needs in either a primary or secondary setting.
All new members of staff receive a very strong programme of induction, which includes an allocated member of staff to support with the operational elements of joining a new school, as well as a tailored support package to meet individual needs.
