The Holmewood School is launching an exciting new programme that aims to recruit and train Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) in order to provide outstanding pastoral and academic support to our young people. As such we are recruiting enthusiastic staff who have either gained their HLTA qualification or who are interested in working towards it with us.

Candidates will likely have experience of working in schools, or they may have experience in management. We would also be interested in interviewing people who have training in psychology or other areas that are compatible with this position.

Please see the HLTA job description for full details and note that this exciting job may include some of the following:

  • Teaching whole classes for agreed lessons
  • Pastoral responsibility for a form class, under the mentorship of a teacher.
  • Covering ad-hoc lessons for teachers
  • Interventions with groups or individuals
  • Leading on a particular area of whole school development that both interests you, and is important to the current priorities of the school (in line with the School Improvement Plan)
  • Line managing, supporting and mentoring Teaching Assistants
  • Leading assemblies
  • Participation in some of the CPD for teachers

Successful candidates will need to hold the HLTA qualification or be interested in studying towards this. If you are in the process of gaining this award, you should bring evidence of your progress (including a recent teaching observation) to the interview.  If you have previously held a HLTA position in another school you are welcome to apply or if you have had experience in schools, management or a related area.

We are looking for dynamic, flexible and enthusiastic people who are positive about change and exude this positivity to other staff. You will be committed to providing the best opportunities for our group of learners, ensuring every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

To apply, please provide a personal statement that highlights your suitability for this role and emphasises your past learning, showing your readiness for this position. We warmly welcome your applications and look forward to reading these.

About The Holmewood School

The Holmewood School is a growing independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged from 7 to 19 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our young people are broadly similar to their mainstream peers in their academic ability but require support with communication and interaction, executive functioning, anxiety, functional skills and other needs related to their diagnosis. Many of our young people also have coaccurring diagnoses, such as ADHD and dyslexia.

We were awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted following their visit in May 2022 and we are proud to have Advanced Accreditation Status granted by the National Autistic Society.
