Are you a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant committed to improving the lives of children and young people? Or are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with excellent standards of provision looking for your next step?

We are looking for a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant to join our fantastic English Department at Caterham High School. You will work predominately in the English Department but may need to work in other areas of provisions in the school as directed. Your main focus will be on improving the literacy and language levels of students at the school.

The English department is an important part of the children’s academic journey. Teachers are committed and dedicated, and leadership of the department is strong. You will be calm, engaging, resilient, enjoy working as part of a team and be genuinely motivated by helping every child to reach their potential.

We are looking for someone who can work with individual and small groups of children, leading literacy and language interventions and programmes as directed, and who can build relationships with pupils to promote interaction and learning.

We strive to achieve aspirational outcomes and provision for our children and young people, set within a culture of inclusion and high expectations. Ofsted: Good: June 2022: "Pupils at Caterham High School belong to a caring community. Staff encourage pupils to believe in themselves and persevere in pursuit of their ambitions."

We are a community school that serves a richly diverse area of East London, with many

ethnic groups and languages represented. We maintain a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.

There is strong and valued CPD for all staff.

Our staff are well known as friendly and welcoming. There are staff activities such as football, badminton and yoga. Staff have free access to our fitness suite and free parking. We take staff wellbeing seriously.

We warmly welcome an informal telephone conversation prior to application. Visits to the site can be arranged.

Are you interested? If so, please contact

Debby Venner (HR Manager) for more information - the application pack and form are on

our website.

Completed application forms should be e-mailed to recruitment@ecaterham.net by Monday 1st July 2024 at 10am.

The school will assess applications immediately on application and reserves the right to interview and appoint a suitable candidate before the closing date.  The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Offer of a position is subject to receiving satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS Clearance.

Caterham High has been at the heart of the local community for over 60 years providing an excellent education for all young people that join our thriving institution. We are ambitious for our students, setting high aspirations in all that they do. We aim to ensure that they achieve the best exam results possible, have opportunities to develop their talents and aptitudes, and become confident young people who will step out to meet the challenges of the world today.

We pride ourselves on providing an outstanding learning environment in which all students realise their full potential. As a six form entry school we know our students very well, catering for the needs of the individual and ensuring strong pastoral and academic support. This makes us popular with students and staff alike who thrive on good working relationships and caring attitudes that create a warm, purposeful atmosphere. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, with many races, religions, cultures and languages represented.  We celebrate our diversity and welcome the opportunities it gives us to learn from each other.

Our home-school partnerships are very strong.  For students to maximise their potential, it is vital that parents and carers and the school work productively together. We use regular monitoring, target setting and dialogue with students and parents and carers to ensure students make good progress. There are many opportunities, formal and informal, for dialogue, which we strongly welcome.

We have an expanding and responsive curriculum aimed at enhancing choice and opportunity for students as they progress through the school from Year 7 to Year 13.  Our teaching is both innovative and challenging both in content and delivery, and ICT is used throughout the school to bring the curriculum to life and to stimulate and engage students in their learning. We make good use of our facilities (including the astro-turf pitch, pool, fitness suite and dance studio) and ensure that every child can be involved in the enrichment opportunities on offer.

Caterham High is a school with great strengths. Students of all ages are eager to learn and take pride in their school. They are the perfect ambassadors for us.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you would like to arrange an appointment to visit.

We thank you for your interest in our School and look forward to hearing from you.
