Aurora Poppyfield School

We’re looking to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at Poppyfield School. The successful candidate will be supporting the teacher within the class.

Our autistic students are aged between 11 – 16, they have associated behavioural and communication difficulties. Some pupils may have multiple learning difficulties.

Poppyfield is part of the Aurora group, they share their Principal with Redehall school, but all other staff are specific to each school

Key Duties:

Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding

  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships and attitudes.
  • Monitor pupils conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve highly complex, difficult or very challenging issues and to keep records of incidents, health, behaviour etc. as necessary.


Supporting Teaching and Learning

  • To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school.
  • Assist the Class Teacher with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
  • To provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Develop and implement individual plans for pupils (such as the educational elements in an EHCP), including attendance at, and contribution to, reviews if requested.

Skills and Qualifications

  •  GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification or demonstrate equivalent skill level.
