Purpose of the role:

·        As a HLTA, you will lead a small SEND provision group known as Phoenix. You will work collaboratively with SENCO to plan and deliver a bespoke programme to a small group of SEND pupils within the SEND unit.

·        To contribute to the development of other support staff through the appraisal process and to actively lead and develop members of the TA team, on a daily basis, to ensure that high standards of support for children are consistently maintained.

·        To effectively liaise with TAs, Heads of Year, teachers and external professionals.

·        Excellent communication skills are required to ensure all staff work collaboratively and efficiently to help accelerate children’s progress to be the ‘best that they can be.’

·        This role may be subject to change and will be agreed in conjunction with the SENDCo and Headteacher.

 

We are looking to appoint and experienced candidate who has:

·        Knowledge of SEND and an understanding of ways in which children with SEND learn differently to their peers

·        Be able to use their knowledge and understanding to adapt teaching to meet the diverse needs of children

·        Experience in working with children with significant speech and language difficulties and sensory processing differences

·        Have the commitment, skills and motivation to engage learners who present with attention and communication delays

·        Have experience in the use of a range of supports, strategies and programmes specific to supporting students with complex SEND needs

·        A commitment to the continuous improvement of provision through imaginative and differentiated lessons

·        Experience in the enhancement of pupil progress and raising attainment and achievement in all children

·        Experience of assessing and tracking pupil progress to ensure all learners are making progress

·        Emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with young people with a range of complex needs.

·        The ability to foster good relationships with other staff, children, parents and the wider community

·        Be hardworking, organised and proactive in their professional development

Responsibilities:

The post holder will be required to work flexibly as part of the teaching support staff with guidance from the SLT and the SENCO to fulfil the following responsibilities:

·        Prepare lessons contributing to the planning cycle including evaluating and adjusting lessons in response to pupils’ needs.

·        Be responsible for the planning and delivery of Entry Level English and Maths to a small group of SEND pupils.

·        Be responsible for the planning and delivery of life skills – qualification to be confirmed once the post has been filled.

·        Organise and safely manage the appropriate learning environment and resources.

·        Assess pupils’ responses to learning tasks and where appropriate, modify methods to meet individual and/or group needs.

·        Promote and support the inclusion of all pupils, including those with specific needs, both in the classroom as part of first-quality teaching and through intervention work.

·        Use positive behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policy and procedures to contribute to a purposeful learning environment and encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others.

·        Provide information relating to pupil progress for parents and carers, teachers and senior leaders upon request and to contribute to assigned pupils’ annual reports at the request of the pupils’ class teachers and SLT.

·        Support pupils in social and emotional well-being

 

HLTAs in this role may also undertake some or all of the following:

 

● Record basic pupil data

● Assist with break-time/lunchtime supervision including facilitating games and activities

● Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits

● Support pupils in using basic ICT

● Invigilate tests

Working Requirements: 34.5 hours per week, Term-Time, Plus 5 Insets, Mon-Thurs 8.15am-3.45pm, Fri-3.15pm Salary: F015S (£24,613) – F019S (£26,924) (pro rata – Actual £20,083-£20,770)

Fulwood Academy opened on 1st September 2009 replacing Fulwood High School and Arts College, an established and successful 11-16 Secondary School situated in North Preston. In June 2023 Ofsted rated Fulwood Academy as "Good" in all areas, in the report they said:
