Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and friendly Home Economics Technician to join our growing department to provide technical support to the School’s Home Economics teaching staff in the delivery of class work and teacher demonstrations. The technician’s role will be to enhance and enrich the learning experience of pupils and ensure that the aims and objectives of the School are achieved in a manner that meets the needs of individual pupils, promotes a positive image of the School, reflects good practice in teaching and learning, and complies with all relevant health and safety standards and regulations.


  • Support teachers in the classroom during practical classes;


  • Manage resources in order to provide access to the wide variety of equipment and materials necessary for the delivery of the Home Economics curriculum;


  • Purchase and organise the food for practical classes;


  • Maintain an inventory of departmental equipment and materials;


  • Maintain hygiene of food equipment;


  • First line maintenance of equipment/simple safety checks;


  • Maintain the organisation and hygiene of the Technician’s area;


  • Foster and support the school's rules and guidelines, aims, values and ethos;


  • Assist in the storage and maintenance of equipment, as appropriate;


  • Use IT within the department to help with teaching and learning, as and when appropriate;


  • Be a reliable member of the team, working co-operatively and with flexibility;


  • Assist the HE team in ensuring the safety, security and well-being of all children;


  • Attend regular staff meetings and training sessions as required;


  • Undertake a shared responsibility for health, safety, hygiene and cleanliness throughout the setting, including carrying out daily, weekly and termly cleaning tasks.

About Lewes Old Grammar School

Lewes Old Grammar School is an independent, co-educational, all-through school in East Sussex. The historic town of Lewes has a population of 17,000 and is known for its annual bonfire festival. 

The school can trace its roots to an educational foundation started by Agnes Morley during the reign of Henry VIII. At its last inspection there were 509 pupils on the school roll, between the ages of 3 and 18.
