Job overview

The BSN is an established multi-site international school with four campuses and a centralised support services based close to The Hague, in the Netherlands.

We are looking for an experienced HR Advisor, who can provide proactive support, enabling senior leaders and line managers to carry out their roles efficiently and effectively. This is a varied HR generalist role which requires a hands-on approach and someone with a keen eye for detail and quality assurance.

This role is based in the Netherlands, and you will be expected to relocate.


Main responsibilities

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process including; the career page, onboarding and offboarding, work permits, training for hiring managers, regulations and compliance, budget management etc.
  • Line manage the Recruitment Officer and support with recruitment activities during busy periods.
  • Monitor key recruitment metrics, such as turnover and retention rates.
  • Provide advice to Headteachers and Line Managers on all aspects of HR, staffing and budgets (for at least two of the campuses).
  • Manage staff relationships whilst triaging and resolving HR related issues with a focus on efficiency, compliance and managing expectations.
  • Sickness absence case management.
  • Use HR information systems to access, input and compile data.
  • Suggest new HR technology solutions to improve day-to-day operations (e.g. ATS and HRIS software, AI).
  • Monitor, review and update relevant HR policies, in line with current legislation.
  • Support the Head of HR with cases such as performance management, grievance and disciplinaries.
  • Central Service Designated Safeguarding Lead and member of the BSN Safeguarding Committee.


Skills and experience

  • At least 3 years proven work experience as an HR advisor or similar role.
  • Proficient in digital HR systems.
  • Intermediate Excel skills required.
  • Personable with strong communication and relationship building capabilities across all levels of the organisation.
  • Resilient, solution-focused, and able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of HR principles / EU law and trends.
  • Working experience in the education sector and / or an international organisation is an advantage.
  • Excellent spoken and written English required, Dutch is desirable but not essential.

  • Salary range: €4516.15 - €6145.86 monthly gross, in addition to 9% holiday pay. The salary step will be determined by experience.
  • 33.5 days annual leave entitlement plus additional public and BSN holidays.
