Our Staff Community
Our school
Radnor House Sevenoaks has a vibrant school community in which teachers often take time to support one another with projects and initiatives. The school’s open door policy means teachers are encouraged to drop into one another’s lessons in a positive manner in order to learn from each other and benefit from each other’s suggestions. Teachers from all subject areas frequently volunteer to deliver assemblies and talks on areas of interest. School trips and excursions are commonly accompanied by teachers from across different subject specialisms. Our teachers have a wide range of skills and interests, many of which they choose to share with the pupils via our activities programme, as well as developing their artistic, sporting and musical talents beyond the school. Our staff common room is a welcoming work area, with communal space for marking and discussion of ideas. Teachers are invited to a range of social events across the school year, including the Christmas and End of Year parties, which present excellent opportunities to relax and celebrate together as a team.
A learning community
Radnor House Sevenoaks is a community of learners and our teachers are dedicated to their ongoing professional learning, realising that continuous improvement is at the heart of building a successful school. Regardless of our strengths as teachers, we will always need to learn more, because every child, class and topic is different each time we teach, and presents new challenges and opportunities. By adopting this mindset, teachers help to model positive attitudes towards learning, and to foster a sense of resilience and inherent valuing of learning in the pupils whom we teach. Teachers are able to put this philosophy into practice in various ways, ranging from attendance at Professional Learning Groups (PLGs) which run on a variety of teacher-chosen Teaching and Learning themes, through to use of online resources, and formal training courses. We also encourage teachers to pursue further qualifications, and many of our staff take advantage of partial funding arrangements in place for further education including Masters degree studies.
