Job overview

BFIS teachers will be excellent collaborators who deeply value making students thinking visible and reflecting on their practice with other colleagues.  The BFIS curricular programme has been designed and will evolve over time to best meet the learning needs of a diverse group of students that are both local and international and who include students who have English as an additional language and students with learning enrichment needs. Teachers will be up-to-date with research based practice to support students and collaborate with other teachers. The school believes that there is a very real need for humans to develop ways to solve environmental and societal problems that make the world a better place and that this should infuse our teaching and learning. Learning how to be creative to solve problems for action and impact is fundamental to our philosophy as is the nurturing of a caring and compassionate community of adults and young people.  Concept based learning in local and global context is key to successful learning and teaching at BFIS.

About Benjamin Franklin International School

Benjamin Franklin International School (BFIS) is a co-educational school for Nursery through age 18 year old children in Barcelona, Spain. The school incorporates a differentiated U.S curriculum from Nursery to Grade 10, and an academic programme offering the  International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It also confers an American High School Diploma to successful graduates and a Spanish High School Bachillerato to those students who have also completed local requirements. The school was founded in 1986, and now has over 700 students on its roll from over 50 nationalities.  33% of students are International, 33% are U.S Citizens and 33% are Spanish . Extra-curricular and co-curricular activities at BFIS include Student Council, Model United Nations, Math Team, Music, Drama, Dance, Robotics, Yoga, and Language Clubs.  The school recently opened brand new Secondary facilities.

BFIS has an enviable location close to the city but on the edge of the Collserola forest with amazing views overlooking the sea. It is a great location to set the stage for outdoor learning and service opportunities.

All qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant teaching experience (except for Associate positions). BFIS is actively committed to employing a diverse workforce. We practice a full non-discriminatory policy in all school-administered programs and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender identity, national and ethnic origin, age, refugee status, disability, religion or sexual orientation in any our admissions, educational and employment policies, programs, and practices. Staff representing non-European cultures and heritages are encouraged to apply. Experience in International Education is not necessary. Simply, we are looking for great teachers that represent a diversity of experiences and viewpoints.

Mission

The BFIS mission is to engage our diverse school community in the pursuit of educational excellence and success for all students.

Core Values

Be Kind, Be Honest, Be Responsible,  Be Respectful

Vision

We seek to strategically nurture collaborative individuals connected to the world around them who are empowered to design innovative solutions to complex problems to create a better world.

Global transformation requires a transformation in the way we think about education. We are encountering increasingly complex problems like climate change, economic and political instability, famine, conflict, and mass migration. These problems are not confined by and cannot be solved within, national borders. In September 2015, 193 World Leaders ratified 17 Global Goals. Achieving the Global Goals is the challenge of a new generation of young people. The Global Goals are deeply relevant to the learning landscape that we create at BFIS.
